Ok, why is this no longer listed as affecting Kubuntu, when the bug only
appeared in Kubuntu?

[Bug 1034049] Re: hplip Error 5012 on Kubuntu but not Lubuntu

2012-08-09 Thread teh603
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I first installed this printer on a computer running Lubuntu. After a
few shenanigans getting hp-setup to work properly, I got everything
  working.

When I switched back to Kubuntu, however, I started having problems with
print jobs not going through until the printer was power- cycled. When I
reinstalled hplip-gui, the device manager tells me that after I turn on
or restart my computer, I get error 5012. The end result is that I have
to restart the printer whenever I want to print or scan something,
instead of it just working every single time as it did on Lubuntu.

There were also issues with the scanner not being detectable by xsane
until the printer was power- cycled as well. These were also not present
  in Lubuntu.

Figured a discrepancy like this is worth reporting as a bug, since the
hplip version should be the same across the two versions.

Ok, just another note- I reinstalled Lubuntu with hplip and hplip-gui,
and did NOT get Error 5012. Furthermore xSane detected the scanner right
off the bat instead of requiring me to power- cycle the printer.

[Bug 1034049] [NEW] Error 5012 on Kubuntu but not Lubuntu

2012-08-07 Thread teh603
Public bug reported:

[Bug 969865] Re: Dell inspiron duo crash when plugging/unpkugging ac adapter

2012-05-26 Thread teh603
Have you tried it on Lubuntu 12.04? It doesn't seem to be doing it as of
today's updates.

And yes, I did get my butt in gear and finally start testing the
updates. It looks like this was patched with a post-release kernel
update that also patched most of the touchscreen issues.

[Bug 998567] [NEW] Lubuntu needs a way to make startup USB devices

2012-05-12 Thread teh603
Public bug reported:

The normal USB creator package (specifically, the GTK one since the
KDE/Qt one wouldn't) doesn't seem to work on lubuntu when installed thru
Synaptic. It doesn't appear in the menu and isn't invokeable thru the
command prompt, at least not thru any command I know. And yet, this is a
core piece of both Ubuntu and Kubuntu and for all intents and purposes
should be part of the default installation of Lubuntu as well.

It also makes creating an installer device impossible on systems that
don't have a CD drive.

[Bug 995053] [NEW] Drag & Drop to PCManFM window causes system crash

2012-05-05 Thread teh603
Public bug reported:

When attempting to drag a folder or file from a file-roller window to a
PCManFM window, I get a dialog box which says something to the effect
of, "You don't have permissions to extract to " ". " The mouse pointer
becomes stuck as a hand, and the system no longer registers mouse
clicks. Alt-tab invokes the application switcher, but that also doesn't
work.

This happens EVERY time I try this. It is 100% repeatable.

Currently using Lubuntu 12.04, which was installed from a Beta CD image
but has been kept up to date. Please let me know if there are any
additional logs or tests I can append.

[Bug 913164] Re: REGRESSION: eGalaxis Touchscreen Driver does not work

2012-04-25 Thread teh603
I enabled Proposed on a clean (well, clean then updated) Lubuntu
install, ran the updater. Touchscreen didn't work. Installed the driver
from the latest tarball, still didn't work. Installed eGTouchD, still
didn't work. Hacked my rc.local following the instructions far above,
STILL nothing. Ran the updater again, no updates. I shut down and called
it a day.

Surprisingly, there were no kernel updates in -proposed, and none that
looked even remotely related to touchscreens.

[Bug 908560] Re: Kernel oops following docking dell duo

2012-04-11 Thread teh603
I'm also running the latest BIOS, and the oops happens every time I plug
it in while running. It also gives me a black screen of death if I try
to resume from suspend or hibernate and have plugged or unplugged it.

Either way, "Flash your BIOS" isn't a solution. For every story I've
heard of some problem getting fixed by a BIOS flash, I've heard ten of
computers that got bricked because something stupidly trivial
interrupted the flashing process. If it can be patched in software- and
this can, because either MS or Dell has a working driver for Win7- then
we need to patch it and stop telling people to brick their computers.

[Bug 913164] Re: REGRESSION: eGalaxis Touchscreen Driver does not work

2012-04-11 Thread teh603
Quote: For eGalaxis devices, its MT_CLS_EGALAX info is not added into current

@Ling Mei- Is there any way we can get the correct info added or
backported into the driver before release? I'd love to get my
touchscreen working properly the first time around without a ton of
hacks and workarounds.

Shame nobody can get the Inspiron Duo's power adapters working properly.
Since upstream think that its Dell's problem (and FYI, the power
adapters work perfectly in Win7 which tells me that MS sure thinks its
worth patching) I kinda doubt that anything is ever going to get done.

You have to either run it as root (which is very hard in Ubuntu) or add
it to your rc.local and reboot.

[Bug 975112] [NEW] Lubuntu has no graphic font installler

2012-04-06 Thread teh603
Public bug reported:

There is no font installer in Lubuntu. It shouldn't be very hard to
write one for GTK in a runtime; all it takes is a bit of code- probably
less than a megabyte- to create a .fonts folder in /home or find the
existing one, copy fonts into it, and then update the caches.

This is a wishlist item. Don't lose sight of Bug #1, folks.

[Bug 967132] [NEW] modemmanager needs to be added to the Lubuntu default loadout

2012-03-28 Thread teh603
Public bug reported:

On an install of the Lubuntu Pangolin beta, the package modemmanager is
missing from the default loadout. This causes networkmanager to be
unable to manage mobile broadband connections. There should be enough
room to install modemmanager considering Lubuntu still includes a basic
games package in its .iso.

Anyway, manually installing modemmanager in synaptic lets networkmanager
to handle mobile broadband connections. The thing is, an "average user"
might not have the foresight to install this tiny package and thus could
end up in a sudden bind when their mobile broadband connection never

installation where mobile broadband is the only form of internet
connection available. In such a case, modemmanager is impossible to
install because the network connections that depend upon it are
unavailable.

Does it also include the ACPI fix in this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/908560 ? If not,
there's not much point because the power manager is still totally messed
up and makes basic power management useless.

[Bug 908560] Re: Kernel oops following docking dell duo

2012-02-22 Thread teh603
Ok, as someone posted in the UNR thread, here's the nitty gritty about
what's going on here: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38782
. Now, for some reason the Kernel.org folks consider this bug "invalid,"
which seems like a bloody cop-out considering how quirky hardware
doesn't stop Windows 7. There's a fix, and it doesn't seem too hard to
implement, so why don't we create a PPA or something to implement it?

Only thing stopping me from implementing it myself is my absolute lack
of programming skills. Trust me on this one; I'm about as hard on modern
programming as Groo the Wanderer is on ships.

[Bug 913164] Re: REGRESSION: eGalaxis Touchscreen Driver does not work

2012-02-16 Thread teh603
Just something to think about, touchscreen input is supposedly handled
in "modern" kernels using the module hid-multitouch. Said module
supposedly supports the eGalaxis touchscreen, but it just doesn't work.
Has anyone tried looking at the documentation for hid-multitouch to see
just where its messing up, and maybe creating a package to resolve these
issues?

Although the ACPI now fails to properly track when the AC adapter is

I couldn't test that particular kernel release because of massage system
breakage caused by today's run of releases. I already tried dist-
upgrade, and it resulted in a dpkg crash, broken packages, and a lot of
other nastiness including disabled networking. If you can let me know
when the breakage is over, I'll see about testing it again.

Just a note, from looking at the documentation most of its requirements
are services enabled when the kernel is compiled. Which is several steps
above my level of expertise. Is it possible these kernels are being
built in a way that prevents them from providing the services needed,
which are specified in the documentation in the driver tarball I
attached?

[Bug 913848] [NEW] Black screen on resume from sleep

2012-01-09 Thread teh603
Public bug reported:

As the title says, the Dell Inspiron Duo (AKA the Inspiron 1090)
generates a black screen on resuming from sleep, requiring a hard power-
down and reboot. This appears to be similar to the SCI_EN bug that
manifested itself during the Lucid testing cycle on Dell laptops running
the Arrandale chipset.

[Bug 913164] [NEW] REGRESSION: eGalaxis Touchscreen Driver does not work

2012-01-07 Thread teh603
Public bug reported:

This is a regression. The eGalaxis touchscreen driver as downloaded from
the official website simply doesn't work on my Dell Inspiron Duo. It
does in 11.10, so I see no reason why it shouldn't work. I have attached
a copy of the current (as of this writing) version of the driver, which
includes a documentation PDF in its tarball.

[Bug 908560] Re: Kernel oops following docking dell duo

2012-01-06 Thread teh603
The way mine crashes, I'm just going to take a photo of the trace on the
screen and see if that helps. At least next time I'm at home; my camera
isn't with me because I'm at work. It looks like the Duo is having ACPI
quirk issues the way the early Arrandale systems did- it seems to have
wake from sleep to black screen issues and when it dumps to a text

[Bug 905415] Re: Hangs when doing full upgrade after fresh oneiric install

2012-01-03 Thread teh603
I'm having this bug issue as well in Muon. It hangs at 53% of installing
new updates on a fresh install, with something about "running dpkg"
being the only sign of what might be messing up. Could be a dpkg
problem, could be a packagekit problem, or a muon problem, who knows?

[Bug 874569] [NEW] Akondai freakout with kubuntu-low-fat-settings

2011-10-14 Thread teh603
Public bug reported:

A few minutes after boot, three identical Akondai messages appear in the
notification area, complaining that Nepomuk is disabled. Which its
supposed to be. Is there any way we can add another setting to make
Akondai stop complaining?

This bug happens in both i386 and AMD64 architectures.

[Bug 779871] [NEW] Macmini 3,1 kernel panic on shutdown

2011-05-09 Thread teh603
Public bug reported:

Upon shutdown- after Plymouth has disappeared and the screen gone blank,
the power light turns off on the computer but the three keyboard lights
(using a standard PC keyboard here) start blinking. If I don't
disconnect the power, attempting to boot by pressing the power switch
will automatically fail with a blank screen of death. This happens 100%
of the time on my mac mini, but doesn't seem to happen on my Dell
Inspiron 1564.

[Bug 538214] Re: Booting with graphical renderer leaves the system at textual "login:" screen

2010-03-16 Thread teh603
Ok, got it and installed.

On initial shutdown, I saw a "broken pipe" for a few moments.

On restart, it flickered thru several text screens and showed an fcsk
check (sp?) before finally dumping me into the bootsplash. Boot went
normally from there.

Next shutdown showed some text before the closing splash. No "broken
pipe."

Restart didn't show the bootsplash at all (!), but went ok.

Shutdown showed normal splash again, no "broken pipe."

Cold startup (not restart) again showed no bootsplash, but had no
overwhelming issues. Lots of text, though.

Following shutdown showed "broken pipe" for a few moments before turning
off.

Massive improvement over before, but its still a little rough. The
bootsplash still doesn't show as often as its supposed to for some
reason.

Its "fixed" in that the current version of Plymouth will dump you to a

know the function keystroke for it. The fix for that is milestoned for

[Bug 518034] Re: [lucid] Plymouth hangs at boot

2010-03-01 Thread teh603
I had the same problem or a similar one with the AMD64 version, on an
off-the-shelf Dell Inspiron 1564, i3 based version with Arrandale
graphics. The system would hang on boot, and would sit there for a while
before actually doing anything, if it did anything at all. Removing
Plymouth with Synaptic worked, cut my boot time to a fraction of what it
is with it installed, and gives me a few annoying command prompt errors
on boot and shutdown.

Let me know if I need to attach an lspci and lshw.

like it was changing resolutions and then go back to the normal one. The
expected behavior was obviously not flickering like that. I was trying
to just configure it for normal use, and it would just sometimes do it
after I'd closed a control panel window or something. It did it once
when the mouse pointer dipped down toward the panel at the bottom of the
screen, but that's the only one I can remember exactly what I was doing
when it happened.

Ironically, my USB stick got disconnected while I was halfway through
writing the bug report the first time around and caused the whole system
to go down. This is the second report, and it didn't flicker at all
while I was making this report.

I've not been able to find any trigger that was making it do that, and
sometimes it doesn't seem to do it at all. I'll see about finding out
what might cause it next time I boot to Alpha 1.

[Bug 503121] [NEW] Screen seems to be trying to change resolution for no known reason

2010-01-04 Thread teh603
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Basically, the screen seems to do the thing it does when changing
resolution at random times, without any visible reason for needing to do
so.
