[Bug 1061639] Re: Upstartification of /etc/init.d/networking has lost deconfiguring-networking event causing bad side-effects

2013-02-01 Thread tekkenlord
@Gard Speermann

You may have tried this but...

The very first shutdown after the kernel update will not be clean as the
kernel has not been loaded yet. So, first boot in the updated kernel and
then try to restart...good luck!

Hello all,

I can also confirm that the kernel update (3.5.0-23) seems to resolve the
issue. Two restarts so far, both clean!
Thanks for the fix, hope we will not be seeing this bug in the future :)

[Bug 1061639] Re: Upstartification of /etc/init.d/networking has lost deconfiguring-networking event causing bad side-effects

2013-01-22 Thread tekkenlord
Hello all,

I would just like to add that this issue also affects my desktop and
laptop, the former with a wired connection and the latter with a
wireless, both running quantal 64-bit.

I just tried the workaround in post #20 for my desktop and it seems to
be working, i.e clean reboot/shutdown. This is of course far from ideal
since at every restart I have to set up my wired connection from scratch
(using KDE 4.9.5).

Thanks.

[Bug 1078740] [NEW] LightDM does not use user's icon theme

2012-11-14 Thread tekkenlord
Public bug reported:

Hello,

The icons used by lightdm for the reboot, suspend, shutdown, login and
wrong-password buttons seem to always be the ones from the default
oxygen icon theme, and not from the icon theme currently used by the
system. I have tried copying the user's icon theme into
/usr/share/icons/, but that did not make any difference.

The strange thing is that when running 'lightdm --test-mode' from within
a running KDE session, then the icons used _are_ the ones set by the
user's icon theme.

I am using kde 4.9.3 from kubuntu packages. The version of lightdm and
lightdm-kde-greeter on my system are 1.4.0 and 0.30 respectively. The
version of Kubuntu is 12.10 .

Please let me know if I can give more information or if there is any
workaround to try.

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1078740] Re: LightDM does not use user's icon theme

2012-11-14 Thread tekkenlord
Thanks for your answer. The icon theme name is Reflektions
(http://linuxfever.deviantart.com/#/d287xmx) and I am the only user in
my system. I am sure the theme supports the icons required as I have
created the theme myself ( and as I mentioned the icons show up just
fine when using 'lightdm --test-mode').

According to your reply, do I understand correctly that this is the
desired functionality, ie always use the default oxygen icon theme?

Now, if I boot in recovery mode, drop to root console with network and
login to my desktop from there, then shutdown/rebooting is clean and all

[Bug 618786] [NEW] unclean unmount during shutdown/reboot

2010-08-16 Thread tekkenlord
Public bug reported:

I am using Kubuntu 10.04 64-bit and have disabled plymouth in order to see what
exactly is going on during
startup/shutdown.

Almost everytime I shutdown/reboot my computer I see the following msg:

Unmounting weak filesystems...
mount :/ is busy

and then the computer shuts down.

On startup, I receive the msg that the drive (sda1 in my case) needs to
be recovered.

I found a similar report here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sysvinit/+bug/616287

but applies to the 10.10 release, which is why I decided to file a
report for Lucid.

I am worried that this can cause data corruption or loss. Please also
note that many users may be unaware of the problem since most have
plymouth enabled (therefore there are no msgs appearing during shutdown)

Please let me know if you need any more information. Thanks.

[Bug 193419] Re: External monitor loss - intel 945

2008-04-30 Thread tekkenlord
As I said earlier I use Kubuntu Hardy. In the xorg.conf there was not a
reference to which driver my system uses. However, in the system-
settings, under the Monitor and Display section, it says that I use the
i810 driver. I added the Driver intel under the Device section in the
xorg.conf. Even though in the system settings it still says i810, I have
not experienced any monitor blackouts or flickerings (so far).

I do not know if the same applies for Ubuntu, it seems that the
xorg.conf there contains the Driver intel section. For details check
the ubuntuforums thread linked at the previous post by quantumphaze.

Anyway, you can try it and see what happens. Good luck!

I am experiencing exactly the same problem as macat. I have Kubuntu

laptop is connected to an external monitor (1680x1050). I always turn
off the laptop monitor (usign xrandr). The external monitor suddenly
goes black or grey after some time. I have noticed the following when
this happens:

1) There is no mouse pointer, the external screen is completely black or grey.
2) Ctrl-Alt-Backspace restarts the X-server but does not correct the problem
(still black screen). A full reboot corrects the problem.
3) Ctrl-Alt-F1 takes me to a console in the laptop screen.
4) The external screen sometimes flickers for a second.
5) I did not have this problem under Kubuntu Gutsy.
6) I do not know if its related but yesterday the whole X-server crashed and
could not be recovered with any of the above.

I attach the requested outputs. Thanks for any suggestions.

breaks horribly if you aren't running an unreleased xf86-video-intel

should probe the device gart correctly.

2007-10-11 Thread tekkenlord
I just want to say a big thank you to all of you guys here for the
effort you are making to solve this bug. I am experiencing the same
problems on a Kubuntu Feisty Dell Inspiron 6400 with Intel 945GM.

I do not want to make things more complicated than they already are but:

I switched from Kubuntu to Ubuntu (both using the xserver-xorg-video-
intel driver) because of this bug and I did not get the crashes anymore.
I also installed the kde-core package because I wanted KDE instead of
Gnome and still did not have any problems. When I started using KDM
though instead of GDM the problems started again.

I have been using GDM and the KDE environment ever since with no
problems at all for at least 2 months. Note that I have tested the
problem only when restarting X-server and shutting down/restarting the
laptop (nothing else).

The package version of the driver is 2:1.9.94-1ubuntu3

Hope it can be of any help...

Thanks again!!!

on Dell Inspiron 6400 with Kubuntu Feisty and I think it has to do with
the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver. For more info take a look at this:

[Bug 127101] Re: laptop hangs when switching video mode

2007-10-03 Thread tekkenlord
I do not know if anyone knows of this but have you tried the following:

for Ubuntu:

Type in a terminal :

sudo gdmsetup - In the general tab tick the Restart the X server with
each login

for Kubuntu:

you've got to add or uncomment the line

TerminateServer=true

in the [X-:*-Core] section of the kdmrc-File (/etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc) -
beware of the ':', there is a similar named section without it, too!

Seems to work for many.
