[Bug 1197869] Re: [Lenovo Thinkpad T430u] randomly locks up/freezes

2013-10-06 Thread the_vorpal_blade
I've confirmed that the bug is still an issue with the latest (2.08) version of
the BIOS, under 12.04 (LTS).
It would certainly be good to backport a fix.

I can confirm that this is an issue in Natty. It happened with today's
batch of updates, since it was not a problem yesterday.

[Bug 492034] Re: [STAGING] realtek rtl8192su chipset based USB wireless devices fail to work

2010-05-04 Thread the_vorpal_blade
I can reproduce in Lucid amd64. I'm using the mvix solido which uses the 8192SU
driver (although it has the 8191 chip)
I'm running the 2.6.34-rc6 kernel. When I copied the firmware directory as
indicated above, the firmware downloaded and the wireless device began to work
(sort of. It can scan stations but not connect, but thats probably a separate
issue)

[Bug 445668] Re: Rhythmbox not able to rip audio CD to default format

2009-10-10 Thread the_vorpal_blade
Looks to me like the Rhythmbox encoding profiles are all screwed up.
Under the preferred format dropdown box m4a, mp2, mp3, spx and wav are listed
as formats, but not flac.
in the 'edit' dialouge, flac has an empty encoding profile. ogg is MIA.

[Bug 210572] [NEW] No sound in wine under amd_64

2008-04-01 Thread the_vorpal_blade
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine

by default wine can't output sound, since it does not have native pulseaudio
drivers.
A workaround is to use padsp to wrap wine, however this does not work in the
default 64 bit install, since libpulsedsp.so is not in /usr/lib32.

error message is:
ERROR: ld.so: object 'libpulsedsp.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded:
ignored.

If I copy libpulsedsp.so from the i386 version of pulseaudio-utils then
padsp wine works fine.

I'm using wine-0.9.58 under fully updated hardy.
pulseaudio is at 0.9.9-1ubuntu4
pulseaudio-utils is at 0.9.9-1ubuntu4

[Bug 187547] Re: nautilus eat memory, locks desktop

2008-03-22 Thread the_vorpal_blade
I can confirm this bug, Its rather crippling...it can be reproduced by opening
a nautilus window and changing directory by double clicking a folder.
The hang also occurs sporadically when there is an open nautilus window. When
the hang occurs, it takes ~14 seconds to eat through my 4 Gb of ram, after
which my computer becomes increasingly unresponsive.
I attached gdb to nautilus by the command:
gdb nautilus 7779
The only interesting message was:
0xe410 in ?? () from /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
which occured before I induced the hang in nautilus
then obtained a backtrace after inducing the error.
sadly, the backtrace is identical to a backtrace performed when nautilus is not
failing:
(gdb) bt
#0 0xe410 in ?? () from /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
#1 0x0001ffb782f8 in ?? ()
#2 0xf78bbc670004 in ?? ()
#3 0xf7ad7a1b in ?? ()
#4 0x0001f7b4f248 in ?? ()
#5 0xffb783580004 in ?? ()
#6 0x080b7908f7adc176 in ?? ()
#7 0x00010004 in ?? () from /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
Backtrace stopped: previous frame inner to this frame (corrupt stack?)

I'm running x86_64 on a fresh install (as of today)
If you need any more info, or did the debugging wrong, lemme know (I'm new at
this)

[Bug 187547] Re: nautilus eat memory, locks desktop

2008-03-22 Thread the_vorpal_blade
You are correct. The problem only occurs when the directory being
changed to contains an SVG. In my case, my home directory contained the
SVG.

backtrace attached. Since no actual crash occurs, I enduced the error,
then stopped the process and performed the backtrace.

[Bug 187547] Re: nautilus eat memory, locks desktop

2008-03-22 Thread the_vorpal_blade
blarg, it looks like it was simply a malformed SVG in my case...no
problems with other SVGs, and evince and inkscape both display the same
behavior when opening the SVG in question. Its possible that jtilghman
has a completely different issue, but mine is effectively resolved.

[Bug 180008] Re: libflashsupport useless on amd64

2008-03-09 Thread the_vorpal_blade
Does this mean that the patch is unnecessary, and all we need is libpcap in
lib32?
I went ahead and reinstalled the version in the repos, and still have sound in
flash (with the manually installed libpcap) so I think the answer is yes,
unless the patched version has been packaged recently.

[Bug 180008] Re: libflashsupport useless on amd64

2008-02-17 Thread the_vorpal_blade
The fix in the link no longer works. Installing it causes flash to be
extremely unstable (it crashes after 5-10 seconds of video playback) and
does not fix the sound problem. I'm running the most recent version of
hardy.

I suggest an increase in severity, since this should is a problem in the
default install of the 64 bit version that is extremely annoying to the
average user.

[Bug 150666] Re: package update-notifier 0.60 failed to install/upgrade: underprocess post-installation script failed with error code 1

2007-10-08 Thread the_vorpal_blade
I have the same problem, here is the relevant aptitude output in english:

ending tag mismatch: default line 7 and schema

I took a look at /usr/share/gconf/schemas/update-notifier.schemas and line 7
looked like
   defaultfalse/default

It should look like

   defaultfalse/default

Making this small change fixes the problem.
