The following NEW packages will be installed:
  brasero dasher dasher-data deskbar-applet desktop-base gnome-accessibility

[Bug 523424] [NEW] Dansguardian and tinyproxy silently block pages

2010-02-17 Thread thedjatclubrock
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dansguardian

When using dansguardian, firehol and tinyproxy with the directions here
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=207008), most pages go through
fine while others (malicious websites/inappropriate content) is blocked,
with a message returned to the user. However, some pages, such as the
BBC links contained on the firefox bookmark bar do not load. They aren't
shown as blocked, they do not show up in the access logs as blocked but
they do not load, however, their favicon loads fine. This occurs on some
other sites too, and a machine on the same network without the filter
may load the pages fine. There are no indications in any of the log
files that anything was blocked.

It also appears as gedit in GNOME-Do and the right-click menu as well as
the open with... dialog. it doesn't say text editor in those places at
all, just gedit. Should fix.

[Bug 444965] [NEW] Ubuntu code of conduct error

2009-10-06 Thread thedjatclubrock
Public bug reported:

= Ubuntu Code of Conduct =

This Code of Conduct covers your behaviour as a member of the Ubuntu
Community, in any forum, mailing list, wiki, web site, IRC channel,
install-fest, public meeting or private correspondence. The Ubuntu
Community Council will arbitrate in any dispute over the conduct of a
member of the community.

'''Be considerate.''' Your work will be used by other people,
and you in turn will depend on the work of others. Any decision
you take will affect users and colleagues, and we expect you to
take those consequences into account when making decisions. For
example, when we are in a feature freeze, please don't upload
dramatically new versions of critical system software, as other
people will be testing the frozen system and will not be
  expecting big changes.

'''Be respectful.''' The Ubuntu community and its members treat
one another with respect. Everyone can make a valuable
contribution to Ubuntu. We may not always agree, but
disagreement is no excuse for poor behaviour and poor
manners. We might all experience some frustration now and then,
but we cannot allow that frustration to turn into a personal
attack. It's important to remember that a community where people
feel uncomfortable or threatened is not a productive one. We
expect members of the Ubuntu community to be respectful when
dealing with other contributors as well as with people outside
the Ubuntu project and with users of Ubuntu.

'''Be collaborative.''' Ubuntu and Free Software are about
collaboration and working together. Collaboration reduces
redundancy of work done in the Free Software world, and improves
the quality of the software produced. You should aim to
collaborate with other Ubuntu maintainers, as well as with the
upstream community that is interested in the work you do. Your
work should be done transparently and patches from Ubuntu should
be given back to the community when they are made, not just when
the distribution releases. If you wish to work on new code for
existing upstream projects, at least keep those projects
informed of your ideas and progress. It may not be possible to
get consensus from upstream or even from your colleagues about
the correct implementation of an idea, so don't feel obliged to
have that agreement before you begin, but at least keep the
outside world informed of your work, and publish your work in a
way that allows outsiders to test, discuss and contribute to
  your efforts.

'''When you disagree,''' consult others. Disagreements, both
political and technical, happen all the time and the Ubuntu
community is no exception. The important goal is not to avoid
disagreements or differing views but to resolve them
constructively. You should turn to the community and to the
community process to seek advice and to resolve
disagreements. We have the Technical Board and the Community
Council, both of which will help to decide the right course for
Ubuntu. There are also several Project Teams and Team Leaders,
who may be able to help you figure out which direction will be
most acceptable. If you really want to go a different way, then
we encourage you to make a derivative distribution or
alternative set of packages available using the Ubuntu Package
Management framework, so that the community can try out your
changes and ideas for itself and contribute to the discussion.

'''When you are unsure,''' ask for help. Nobody knows
everything, and nobody is expected to be perfect in the Ubuntu
community (except of course the SABDFL). Asking questions avoids
many problems down the road, and so questions are
encouraged. Those who are asked should be responsive and
helpful. However, when asking a question, care must be taken to
do so in an appropriate forum. Off-topic questions, such as
requests for help on a development mailing list, detract from
  productive discussion.

'''Step down considerately.''' Developers on every project come
and go and Ubuntu is no different. When you leave or disengage
from the project, in whole or in part, we ask that you do so in
a way that minimises disruption to the project. This means you
should tell people you are leaving and take the proper steps to
ensure that others can pick up where you leave off.

minimises should be minimizes

[Bug 442416] [NEW] Upgrade to Karmic from Jaunty fails

2009-10-04 Thread thedjatclubrock
Public bug reported:

I tried to upgrade a laptop running Jauntry to Karmic with update-
manager -d, however, the upgrade failed with the following error
message:

Could not install the upgrades
The upgrade is now aborted. Your system could be in an unusable state. A
recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a)

then, I ran sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, and found out which package
caused this issue, it turned out the error was

E: Couldn't configure pre-depend openoffice.org-core for openoffice.org-
filter-binfilter, probably a dependency cycle.

It would be really nice to fix this asap, because I imaging more and
more people will try upgrading soon. The full apt-get log is attached

[Bug 333620] [NEW] phpLDAPadmin misconfiguration

2009-02-23 Thread thedjatclubrock
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: phpldapadmin

While browsing the default phpldapadmin configuration, I found what
seems to be an error.

/* The port your LDAP server listens on (no quotes). 389 is standard. */
$ldapservers-SetValue($i,'server','port','389');

It clearly says no quotes, but on installation, the line contains single quotes
around the port number.
Maybe I am missing something, but this looks like a minor bug to me.

[Bug 269804] [NEW] Default Theme is Ugly

2008-09-13 Thread thedjatclubrock
Public bug reported:

I know this isn't really a Bug but it is a Bug in the terms that it
prevents new users from switching to Ubuntu. I've heard people tell me
they'd prefer to use Vista, or XP due to their looks over Ubuntu.
Ubuntu's default theme is also pretty ugly, in comparison to Fedora or
OpenSUSE. Is there a way to have an option in the installer that offers
the Human theme, and a nicer looking alternative. One that looks similar
to OpenSUSE, with Gnome and the gnome-main-menu package installed by
default. Many people I have asked are appalled by the default orange-
brown colors. This could include a diff. GTK theme, Background, and a
new GDM. Thank you.

I'd love to try the Alpha, but it wasn't my computer I was installing
on. If I go into the OEM mode, it worked, which was fine as I was giving
this to a friend, but doesn't solve the main issue. It works now, and I
gave it back earlier today. When I buy my new box, I will try the Alpha.
Thanks :)

[Bug 257761] [NEW] Install fails due to partitioning error

2008-08-13 Thread thedjatclubrock
Public bug reported:

(Forum page
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5583579#post5583579)

I am trying to install Ubuntu off of an x86 liveCD. During install, as
soon as it tries the partitioner, I get a dialog box that tells me that
there was a signal 10. It says to check the syslog. I have pasted the
syslog http://paste.cluenet.org/954 -- here. This is on a Laptop (Acer)
with one sda containing two Windows partitions (That I'd change,
provided the installer would get to that step.). I have verified this
disk (install), and it is fine. Thanks.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
