[Bug 765248] Re: patch to add proxy support from 2.12 to 2.13

2011-06-13 Thread tkoun
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 713604 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713604

one thing about free software is that it is destined to the community so
when feedback comes back from the community it is not only stupid to
ignore it but it is against first principles as well.

now steubens comes with his approach of dealing with the stupidity of
transmissionbt developer(s); it is acceptable, justifiable and it works.
however it just goes around the problem. from my side I decided to
switch to deluge because I believe that stupidity should be sanctioned.
(I just kept my transmission 2.05 from good old maverick so that I can
check from time to time how far stupidity can go...)

PS: by the way thanks steubens!
PPS: though it is easy to find a lot of stupid decisions with regards to
software development, it is very hard to find THE stupidest decision...
transmissionbt's removal of proxy support is one! it does not take to be a
genius to see how erroneous it is and what kind of crappy arguments the
developer needs to invent to back it up.

[Bug 762964] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-06-05 Thread tkoun
hello,

here is my workaround that consistently works not only at boot or reboot
but also after suspend/hibernate...

-- just install using synaptic the bluez package from blueman ppa
(ppa:blueman/ppa); it only exists for maverick but it installs ok in
natty.

before I tried
1) kernel upgrade from natty proposed
2) /etc/init.d/ bluetooth restart in /etc/rc.local

1) did not work and 2) does not work after suspend/resume

hope this will help someone trapped in natty and lazy as myself to
downgrade to the good old maverick...

PS: after having to deal with this and the infamous 1-pixel tray icons
bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/unity/+bug/767095)
I wonder how it is possible that natty ever came out of the beta (not to
say alpha) status

2011-05-25 Thread tkoun
I confirm that Guiodic solution (post #116) works and it's easy to
apply.

@UbuntuTeam:
unless there is some Unity related concern requiring compiz 0.9.4, PLEASE
consider reverting to compiz 0.8.6 in natty (as per Guiodic's workaround) as
solution to this crippling bug which seems not so easy to fix and leave compiz
0.9.4 for oneiric ocelot or platonic penguin

[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager

2011-05-24 Thread tkoun
@Guiodic
I do not know if downgrading python just to make the 0.8.6 config manager for
compiz work in natty is worth the trouble. with so many python dependencies
maybe it is less complicated to switch back to maverick altogether.

also, I can't see how this png vs xpm icon thing relates to compiz, if
so would the png compiz plugin involved?

@Tehnick
how is your skype icon doing? mine I don't know because I can't see it!
just to prove that as a matter of fact the funny critique that you call noise
is better than just pr noise...

[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet for qt softwares (e.g. Skype)

2011-05-23 Thread tkoun
if this is not a serious bug I don't know what it is! still being unassigned is
simply a disgrace...
seriously how can someone use this thing if most Qt tray icons are not showing?

because of this (not to mention other hicks of lesser importance e.g.
the gnome battery indicator which is not one, ia32_libs issues etc.)
Natty is in my opinion still in B status (B for bullshit and not beta).

Good workaround: downgrade to maverick or switch to XFCE

PS: @Guiodic thanx for the only useful comment so far (using aptitude
the process is fairly simple but don't forget to downgrade the gtk-
decorator)

very cool scrollbars indeed! they could make them even better by adding a
feature to make my skype, vidalia, hplip, vlc, keepassx... icons reappear.
I guess the Ubuntu Desktop experience team guys all work from the tty console

the guy that wanted to practice in C++ using compiz instead of hello world.

Knock knock Ubuntu Desktop experience team anybody home?

2011-05-23 Thread tkoun
@Eliah
it's a show stopper,
why? (let me give you a typical use-case)
because my wife couldn't have installed compiz 0.8.6 from Guiodic's PPA and if
I was not there she would have simply rebooted to her Windows 7 partition not
to return again in Linux land.

by the way metacity (the no effects alternative) simply sucks with
video overlaying on 64bit/ATI-Radeon machine.

PS: I guess dealing with my frustration about this makes me wanna joke,
as Stallman would have said Join us now and save the software...
tralali tralalo...
