[Bug 1310058] Re: ecryptfs-setup-swap hints after reboot
I had the same problem after installing Kubuntu 14.04 64bit. During the installation process I mounted an existing home partition encrypted with ecryptfs. Jamie, why don't you want to add these devices? I mean most Nvidia card users should be affected by this problem. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apparmor with Firefox 4.0 (currently b12 from the ppa but it happened also with previous betas) on Ubuntu 10.10 I'm getting AppArmor error messages like: type=1400 audit(1296725581.050:58): apparmor=DENIED operation=open parent=1 profile=/usr/lib/firefox-4.0-4.0b12prefirefox{,*[^s][^h]} name=/dev/nvidiactl pid=2996 comm=firefox-4.0-bin requested_mask=rw denied_mask=rw fsuid=1000 ouid=0 on certain websites, e.g., http://bodybrowser.googlelabs.com. On that website the images were not displayed until I added /dev/nvidiactl rw, /dev/nvidia0 rw, to the usr.bin.firefox-4.0 profile. Since I cannot imagine that this is specific to my system (I guess it has something to do with hardware acceleration, and a similar problem might exist for AMD cards) I suggest to add this to that profile by default. Note that after adding above lines to the profile I still got errors like: type=1400 audit(1296749585.779:69): apparmor=DENIED operation=open parent=1 profile=/usr/lib/firefox-4.0-4.0b12pre/firefox{,*[^s][^h]} name=/proc/interrupts pid=3035 comm=firefox-4.0-bin requested_mask=r denied_mask=r fsuid=1000 ouid=0 although I couldn't notice any further problems. [Bug 455112] Re: VirtualBox performance is much worse when Intel VT-x is enabled
@Michał Gołębiowski: I can confirm that this problem didn't exist in Jaunty where Virtualbox ran very well with SMP (2 cpus) enabled (and, of course, VT-x which is required for SMP). So something has changed in Karmic under the hood and not for the better ... -- VirtualBox performance is much worse when Intel VT-x is enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455112 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 455112] Re: VirtualBox performance is much worse when Intel VT-x is enabled
I forgot to mention one thing: In the Virtualbox forums there are some posters who wrote that installing the real time kernel (incl. headers) improved the performance of Virtualbox considerably. I tried, and it didn't make a difference for me. But it might be worth a try for others. (Note, however, that the real time kernel is a universe package - personally I don't want to have the kernel of all packages from the universe repos.) Nevertheless the positive experience by the above mentioned users suggests that the problem might be kernel related. -- VirtualBox performance is much worse when Intel VT-x is enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455112 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Since Jamie proposed to use OpenJDK as an alternative: I don't know about Firefox 3.0, but OpenJDK doesn't work properly under FF 3.5 - see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.5/+bug/359407 - and doesn't work at all under FF 3.6 (it doesn't even show up under about:plugins). [Bug 409559] Re: version 1.6.0_15 is available
Yes, it's more than sad. It's rather a breach of trust. Is there another way to ring the alarm bell? Pjotr is right that this is a structural problem. Considering the subscribers to this bug, I wonder why his posting in the MOTU list was even necessary. And I'm beginning to wonder how many other packages that aren't that prominent like the java one have security leaks that have not been patched, either. I mean, if such a serious bug is neglected (against better judgement) everything is possible. -- version 1.6.0_15 is available https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/409559 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 409559] Re: version 1.6.0_15 is available
@Matthias Klose: It must be possible to critisize something without being a developer. IMO, it's a breach of trust from a user's perspective. Why? 1. A patch is available for Karmic (and in some ppa's). Even without being a developer, I cannot imagine that it's so difficult to provide a patched version for other Ubuntu versions too. 2. Ubuntu has always been promoted as a safe OS that patches security leaks as fast as possible. But now we have a situation where a package with a serious leak has not been patched for several weeks although it's used by hundreds of thousands of users. 3. Nobody said that you, Matthias, or somebody else is the culprit. But if the Ubuntu Security Team and others are subscribed to this bug which has been open for weeks and there is still no reaction, something is terribly wrong. That's what Pjotr meant when he was talking about a structural problem. Is it a lack of manpower? Considering all these facts, you should not be too astonished that someone who's been a convinced Ubuntu advocate for years is becoming more and more irritated. -- version 1.6.0_15 is available https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/409559 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 409559] Re: version 1.6.0_15 is available
@Pjotr: Couldn't agree more. This is a disaster from a security viewpoint. We're always telling Windows users that they need something like Secunia PSI to make sure that they will keep their applications updated. And we're telling them: Switch to Ubuntu, and you won't have this problem. - And now this disaster for such a widely used package (thanks Johan for the figures). Pjotr is right that this seems to be a structural problem. I'm anxious to see the reaction on MOTU. -- version 1.6.0_15 is available https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/409559 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 411733] Re: sun-java6 should be updated to 6u15
I agree with xor. The java packages are critical applications used by many people. Not applying the updates that fix their vulnerabilities in due time undermines the reputation of Ubuntu as a secure operating system. Fixing them only in Karmic is definitely not enough. And the solution proposed by James Stansell is surely not suitable for the ordinary user (who doesn't know about this problem in the first place). -- sun-java6 should be updated to 6u15 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/411733 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
