[Bug 563862] Re: When logging on power manager fails
A question / comment - is this problem associated with the GNOME interface? Has anyone found the problem with KDE? It seems clear that the power manager loads early in the boot process - before the program reads that power manager has been "disabled". I have fixed my instance of this problem by changing machines. As well as that, I am a bit committed to GNOME as I am about to change my wife's machine to Linux and I am not familiar with KDE. -- When logging on power manager fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563862 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 563862] Re: When logging on power manager fails
I have tried: 1. Removing disk from CD drive. 2. Changing boot order to HDD first 3. Removing all USB devices. 4. Blacklisting gspca_vc032x 5. Removing PM from startup list 6. Reinstalling PM None of them worked for me. The only thing that I can add to the discussion is that I had an OK install of 10.4 on a HP (desktop) and then (for non related reasons) moved the HDD to a tower with a Gigabyte MB. The problem appeared as soon as I switched on the tower. The tower has an AGP card and I tried removing that and using the onboard video (similar to the HP machine), but didn't change the problem. I put another drive in the tower and did a fresh install of 10.4 and the problem was still there. -- When logging on power manager fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563862 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Of course - The box in question is a combined myth front&backend, so it'll need to wait till the weekend, when I'll be able to boot it off the livecd without getting shouted at for taking the box down :) In all honesty, I'd completely forgotten about this - Nvidia have basically said the it won't work, and they they *might* release drivers in the future. I haven't, yet setup the wheel for use, but I can confirm that the reciver and the LCD appear in /dev as you mentioned above. >When you would either read or write a lot of data from/to these devices >the driver will somehow fail. The iMon device will be "disconnected" and >immediately after that "reconnect" and be recognised by the lirc_imon >driver again. The problem is that any programs that were reading/writing >to these devices will no longer respond. >For instance: LCDd needs to be restarted to be able to use the /dec/lcd0 >device again and lirc needs to be restarted to be able to use /dev/lirc0. I'm running MythTV on the pc using this case, so by it's nature there's a *lot* of traffic to the LCD screen. The driver and/or daemon appear to hang intermittently. I've got a feeling my issues is down to interference from another IR device in the room (I've got a pesky nelson TV ratings box in the same room, and I can replicate the issue by holding down one of the buttons on the remote for that box). In this case, the only way I can fix the issue is by completely power cycling the hardware (ie, by removing power for 15-20 seconds) I've tried restarting Lirc, removing and re-inserting the modules, and just about everything else I can think of, and the issue is only resolved if I power cycle the server. I'm starting to wonder if my bug is different to yours. I have the exact same case, and almost the same issue - The device fails with the same error listed in dmesg, but only after a seemingly random amount of time (in this case, the box has been up for 48+ hours, but the error has only just occurred) yet, the device is still shows under lsusb: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsusb Bus 006 Device 001: ID : Bus 001 Device 001: ID : Bus 007 Device 002: ID 2040:9950 Hauppauge Bus 007 Device 001: ID : Bus 005 Device 001: ID : Bus 004 Device 001: ID : Bus 003 Device 010: ID 15c2:ffdc SoundGraph Inc. iMON PAD Remote Controller Bus 003 Device 001: ID : Bus 002 Device 001: ID : At this point, the device will only display junk until the hardware is cold booted. -- LCDd crashes: vfd_write: no iMON device present https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146292 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 148097] Re: No HDMI audio with ALC883 chipset
Realtek say it "should" work, and it may just be a case of enabling the spdif out put, which is controlled by the video drivers apparently. I'll go back to abit (as nvidia won't support oem'ed hardware) and see if I can get anything other than "sorry, we don't support linux" out of them. -- No HDMI audio with ALC883 chipset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148097 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Stephen, ahhh, then that may be the root of the problem.. I'll fire off an email to Realtek and see if they can shed any light on the situation. I can confirm that there is still no audio, despite my last batch of tinkering. [Bug 148097] Re: No HDMI audio with ALC883 chipset
Just as an FYI - things are still broken under the now stable gutsy release. I did a manual compile of the new alsa (1.0.15) which broke audio even more (no audio what so ever..) I had to follow "method d" here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Gutsy_Intel_HD_Audio_Controller to get the device to appear in aplay et al again. Sadly i'm not at the machine to test if I actually have working audio, so I'll update on that front tonight. -- No HDMI audio with ALC883 chipset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148097 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 135544] Re: X-Server on Gutsy Tribe 5 and GeF orce®7050PV/nForce 630a not starting
The live CD will boot if you "safe graphics mode", and will boot fine after an install. You'll then need to install the Nvidia drivers, either through the restricted drivers manager, or by following the instructions here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11320804 Both methods worked for me. Audio over HDMI is borked, and audio via the standard 3.5mm jacks is very, very quiet. There's a bug open for the latter, and I'm going to post a bug for the former when I get 5 mins this afternoon. Hope this helps, Tony. -- X-Server on Gutsy Tribe 5 and GeForce®7050PV/nForce 630a not starting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
