Re: [Bug 1199059] Re: blueman and pulse's module-bluetooth-discover (A2DP audio sink devices failed to work with "bluetoothd : Unable to select SEP" in system log.)
Well, I think those issues are more typical with associating a bluetooth device with the computer, no? I mean, if the loadmodule were part of a startup script (as it should be), then when you turned on your bluetooth device, the system would at least be ready to interact with it. You may still have to configure the device in the bluetooth menu, but at least you should be able to configure it. Without the module loaded, nothing you would do will help. And this problem extends beyond pulseaudio since I had to load the module manually before I could tether my phone to my laptop when wifi was not available. [Bug 1199059] Re: A2DP audio sink devices failed to work with "bluetoothd : Unable to select SEP" in system log.
After several hours of googling and trying various suggested fixes, I have my bluetooth speakers working and have some hints. Hopefully package maintainers et al can coax them into a more usable form First and foremost I found the following two URLs of enormous help: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=725846 http://askubuntu.com/questions/366032/pulseaudio-not-detecting- bluetooth-headset-automatically The real issue was that module-bluetooth-discover was not loading (and still does not automatically) Test by: pactl list | grep -i module-bluetooth-discover If empty load via pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover Pulse audio will then (hopefully) recognize the device The rest is sketchier since I needed to do this the first time, but not there after First, pulse audio sees the device in the playback menu, normally where you see something like "Built-in Audio Duplex ..." But the first time I tried the instructions in the URL above for associating the device with a2dp, they did not work. Instead, I went in through the bluetooth widget, selected the device, selected audio profile and then a2dp. Then you could select the speakers from the pulse audio control panel Have no idea how to get the pactl load-module to happen automatically, except (of course) I will write a script :) I hope this helps a few ... ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #725846 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=725846 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1199059 Title: A2DP audio sink devices failed to work with "bluetoothd : Unable to select SEP" in system log. [Bug 431091] Re: libstdc++5 removal breaks non-ubuntu applications
I will simply reiterate my post #38. /usr/lib32/libstdc++.so.5 /usr/lib32/libstdc++.so.5.0.7 are still listed in debian sid's ia32-libs from which ubuntu syncs for each new distribution. Why has this departure been made? I think Erik makes an excellent point about Lucid being a LTS release. I cut my teeth on Linux with Debian in the mid 90's, migrated to testing and then sid when I knew how to deal or fix breakages, and then migrated to Ubuntu as it was easier to do installs when dealing with proprietary firmware on wireless (and other areas). So Ubuntu is happy to ship all sorts of restricted stuff as part of their installation package, but not a legacy library against which many other packages have been built. Sad. -- libstdc++5 removal breaks non-ubuntu applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431091 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 431091] Re: libstdc++5 removal breaks non-ubuntu applications
What has long confused me in this often vitriolic discussion is why, when Ubuntu imports from Debian on a regular basis, we see a divergence from Debian with no reasons offered As of today, ia32-libs in debian sid lists the library in contention as a part of the package http://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/ia32-libs/filelist /usr/lib32/libstdc++.so.5 /usr/lib32/libstdc++.so.5.0.7 So removal represents a clear departure from Debian, and one which will apparently have to renewed at each new Ubuntu release. As was clearly indicated in many previous messages, nobody filing these reports cares at all about old gcc issues, simply compatibility with linux software compiled against admittedly aged libraries. -- libstdc++5 removal breaks non-ubuntu applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431091 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 431091] Re: libstdc++5 removal breaks non-ubuntu applications
I have to agree strongly with Mario. Not only is this a very poor answer which will degrade the image of Ubuntu as a viable replacement for proprietary OSes, but this decision seems to have been made unilaterally. I do not know how to kick this up a level to someone who has the vision to see the broader impact, but I think that oversight is critical. -- libstdc++5 removal breaks non-ubuntu applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431091 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
