[Bug 1816846] Re: segfault in libc-2.23.so netinstall installation pxe

2019-03-22 Thread Christian Tucker
The Nathaniel Priddy solution worked for me to - adding

d-i base-installer/kernel/image string linux-image-4.4.0-142-generic

to the preseed file just after the keyboard entry however I now have
a new issue.

When Grub loads it lists Ubuntu, Windows, Ubuntu 16.4.0"

If I select ubuntu it loads no problem - if I select Ubuntu 16.4 then it
crashes when loading

I think this is because ubuntu is expecting a different kernel version -
the problem is I have no idea how to fix that!

[Bug 1817358] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 netboot installation failed during loading of installer component libc6-udeb

2019-03-22 Thread Christian Tucker
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1816846 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816846

Apologies for the noobish question could anyone be kind enough to
explain how to apply the fix?

I have inherited a pxe boot system at work that tries to install ubuntu
16 ltsb and I am experiencing the same error.

At the moment syslinux is using a version of init.gz and vmlinuz that
has worked previously. If I replace these files with the ones from #10
is thay the fix that is working for people?

Any help would be very much appreciated

2016-04-17 Thread Ronnie Tucker
Same here. On upgrading from 15.10 to the 16.04 b2 the Gnome Software
app shows a shopping bag icon and 'No Application Data Found' on the All
tab. Installed tab shows nothing. Blank screen. And the Updates tab
shows a check icon and 'Software is up to date'.

Clicking the menu in Software shows a vertical bar with no text items.

Can attach screens if required.

[Bug 1468020] Re: Two GPS compatible apps conflict and loose GPS

2016-04-09 Thread Ronnie Tucker
Try running uNav for a bit, switch to the camera and take some photos,
and a quick video. Return to uNav, and see if uNav updates your GPS
position.

I did those steps a day/two ago and uNav wouldn't update my location for
a couple of minutes.

[Bug 1545542] Re: Enable arm64 emulation of removed ARMv7 instructions

2016-02-25 Thread Ryan Tucker
As the original impetus for this bug report: I cannot personally verify
that this solves the original problem
(https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/285505) as it
manifests itself on the Launchpad build farm and I do not have necessary
hardware to reproduce this independently.

Latest attempt is https://launchpadlibrarian.net/242901620
/buildlog_ubuntu-precise-
armhf.bladerf_2016.01-rc1+1SNAPSHOT20160225213708-git61c3b57~precise_BUILDING.txt.gz
... note presence of "Illegal instruction" within the log, and the
kernel version of 4.2.0-30-generic on aarch64.

Unity option in Compiz settings that is disabled, but Compiz settings
isn't installed by default (or wasn't for me anyway).

Easiest way to get things back to normal is to open a terminal and do:

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

then do:

ccsm

That will give you the Compiz settings manager and from in there you can
check the box for Unity and the dash and taskbar will start. Even
rebooting should keep Unity now.

[Bug 1468020] Re: Two GPS compatible apps conflict and loose GPS

2015-06-25 Thread Ronnie Tucker
This actually now seems like it's the first GPS app run will keep the
GPS and not release it when closed.

Try this:
1 Reboot the MX4
2 Open (for example) HERE maps
3 Check it's got your location right
4 Keep HERE open, but choose a different GPS app (eg: OSMTouch)
5 The second GPS app will have your location
6 Move to a new location
7 HERE maps (in this case) will update fine
8 Second app will not update to the new location

Even closing the first app before opening the second makes no
difference. The GPS is locked to that first app until a reboot is done.
Also applies to the Nearby scope (as a second app).

[Bug 1468020] [NEW] Two GPS compatible apps conflict and loose GPS

2015-06-23 Thread Ronnie Tucker
Public bug reported:

Meizu MX4 with Ubuntu 15.04 r2

1. run OSMscout (for example)
2. drive/cycle a distance to confirm that GPS tracking is working fine
3. run the camera app (for example)
4. take a few photos (they'll be tagged with GPS info)
5. switch to OSMscout
6. drive/cycle and OSM will now not update from GPS

Haven't tested this with other apps as yet, but it seems that one app
will take control of the GPS and not hand it back. (For want of a better
explanation.)

Oh yeah, I don't think the menu tumble is a crash, just the app exiting
after the tumble. :)

I think the 'tumble' is just the menu rotating. Probably once too many.

[Bug 1412730] Re: DELL U2415 monitor detection issues

2015-02-22 Thread Matthew Tucker-Simmons
Connecting via HDMI rather than displayport has completely solved the
waking issue for me (so far, at least). The monitor consistently wakes
from sleep in the same configuration that I was using before suspending.
Monitor settings are still not persistent across reboots, but this seems
to be a more general issue that can be fixed via an appropriate startup
script.

I have seen some reports of the U2415 having some problems with daisy-
chaining via displayport and that Dell is giving people the runaround.
Sounds like there is some flaw with the displayport, so perhaps we're
seeing another effect of that.

Will report back in case anything changes.

[Bug 1412730] Re: DELL U2415 monitor detection issues

2015-02-20 Thread Matthew Tucker-Simmons
Just wanted to add that I am experiencing a similar issue with the 2415
not waking after suspend. I don't seem to be having the some problems
with screen resolution, monitor detection, or weirdness with xrandr
commands. If I can get the monitor working, xrandr works correctly every
time.

Essentially, if the screen goes into power save mode, I am forced to
reboot in order to wake it up.

My other monitor is an HP ZR24w and I'm running a fully updated 14.04 on
a desktop machine.

I'm not sure what further info or log files might be useful, but let me
know and I'll try to provide whatever I can.

I have never used anything but 14.10 on this computer. I installed
Psensor and ACPI chip, radeon chip, and AMD CPU all run just below, and
sometimes above 120 deg F as I am working right now, all are about 120,
but just spiked at about 137, then back down.
I am not certain how to install and check the upstream kernals, but I
think I would try it, if I can undo it.

I am not real savy on computers, but I just HATE Windows, and I much
prefer Ubuntu, even if it has some problems.

Thanks

2015-02-06 Thread Ron Tucker
I bought This Toshiba from Best Buy last week. It was pre loaded with
Windoze 8.1. I resized the partition, and installed Ubuntu 14.04. I
upgraded to 14.10. I never noticed any problems with 14.04, only with
14.10, but that does not mean much because I upgraded almost right away.

I do not work from the Windoze much, but I never noticed it shutting
down. I only work from the Windoze side when I have to work on my taxes.

When I am in 14.10, just before it shuts down, everything freezes. That
is when I know it is going to restart. It usually happens at least once
an hour.

I have never done anything like what you are asking me to do, but I
would try. However, I really do not understand what to do from the
directions given. What do I download, and how do I install or run it?

[Bug 1386721] Re: Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10

2014-11-11 Thread Matthew Tucker-Simmons
I'm just running standard Ubuntu with Unity, upgraded from 14.04 to
14.10. Video playback is choppy from youtube, netflix, etc. I am
experiencing some of the same problems as #17, switching between
workspaces is slow on occasion. The worst problem is that the Dash is
quite slow, it takes about 3 seconds to pop up after I press Super, when
it used to be more or less instantaneous. And typing in the Dash search
box takes about 1 second per letter.

My hardware is a desktop with Intel integrated graphics. It's not new
(an i3 chip from several years ago) but I never had a problem with
14.04.

[Bug 1089195] Re: linux-headers will eat your inodes on LTS.

2013-12-15 Thread John Tucker
I've a Dell Inspiron mini which came with Ubuntu installed. It's
running 12.04 lts and does very little apart from tv listings and
monitoring email (it's too small for regular use). Yet it ran out of
inodes as shown by df -i when the drive was about half-full according to
df -h.

This borked my ability to update packages and resulted in aptitude
reporting broken packages after an update attempt. Worse, it became
impossible to login to a graphical desktop. To recover, I needed to
boot into text mode by amending the grub boot-up commands and deleting
/tmp to free up sufficient inodes to allow the graphical desktop to load
ok. Then I used synaptic to delete the old linux-headers. The result
was inode usage dropped to a more reasonable 54%.

So yeah, untold numbers of Ubuntu installations are in danger of
mysteriously stopping working because ubuntu does not tidy up after
itself when installing new kernels.

[Bug 811518] Re: SAMBA cannot browse Workgroups, name resolve order

2013-12-05 Thread John Tucker
I've found I also need to set the hostname in smb.conf, and specify how
to relate to lanmanager

netbios name = hostname
name resolve order = wins bcast lmhosts host
client lanman auth = yes
client ntlmv2 auth = no

I've checked this out thoroughly from an Ubuntu 12.04 client on a
vanilla network (adsl router linked by ethernet to multiple machines)
using both a 10.04 and a 12.04 host. In that setup, all four lines are
needed for nautilus to access the share's files and directories.

I found that solution here

[Bug 1252655] Re: Thunar assigns date stamp of deleted file when previous (e.g. original) copy of file copied or moved into directory

2013-11-21 Thread Kim Tucker
Yes, it does seem to be related to fat32, though the problem is still
evident when Thunar is showing a directory on ext4.

When retesting I also had a few surprises (unable at first to
reproduce). It is tricky because one has to check with 'ls -al' that
what Thunar shows corresponds the actual date stamp.

A few more tests copying/moving/replacing only on the ext4 drive seem
fine, a few tests only on fat32 seemed fine, but if I copy/move from
fat32 to ext4 (or vice-versa), then what Thunar displays does not agree
with 'ls -al'. View Reload and ctrl-r do not help (they should).

It seems that Thunar caches some info about the file. If I exit Thunar
completely and then view the same folder again (on ext4, or fat32) it
displays the correct date modified.

[Bug 1252655] [NEW] Thunar assigns date stamp of deleted file when previous (e.g. original) copy of file copied or moved into directory

2013-11-19 Thread Kim Tucker
Public bug reported:

While changing directory structures and trying to reduce the number of
duplicate files on an external usb drive - dragging, dropping and
deleting files manually with Thunar - I noticed the above (title/one
line summary) in the following situation:

(e.g.) I have 2 identical files 'filename.ext' in two folders:
'folder-to-delete/' contains the original file with the original date stamp,
'folder-to-keep/' has the same file but a different (later) date stamp as it
was copied previously (with this problem).

If I delete the file 'folder-to-keep/filename.ext' and then copy or move
(drag/drop) the file 'folder-to-delete/filename.ext' into 'folder-to-
keep/', the file now in 'folder-to-keep/' acquires a new date stamp
(matching the deleted file).

However, if I drag or drop the file into an empty folder which has not
previously contained a version of it, the original date stamp is
retained (as I require/expect).

If I first move (by drag and drop) the unwanted file 'folder-to-
keep/filename.ext' elsewhere, and then copy/move 'folder-to-
delete/filename.ext' into 'folder-to-keep/', the original date stamp is
retained (as I require/expect).

The problem is independent of whether I empty trash after deleting.

So, is this a bug?
I would expect moving or copying a file to some other folder should retain its
date of creation and modification.
Overwriting/replacing the unwanted file with the wanted one should retain date
stamp of the wanted.
In the scenario above the new date stamp is incorrect, so I expect this is a
bug.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 13.10
Release: 13.10
$ uname -a
... 3.11.0-13-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 23 07:38:26 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux
In a Xubuntu session.

A quick test with Nautilus also in a Xubuntu session on the same system:
no. Nautilus works as I would expect: copying, moving and replacing all
retain the date stamp whether the unwanted file was previously deleted
or moved or not (i.e. replaced).

and behold! They did it just in time for the release.
