[Bug 276476] Re: INFO: task blocked for more than 120 seconds causes system freeze

2009-03-04 Thread unikob
Tested using Brian Rogers program from LKML:

Current 8.10 chokes albeit doesn't hang, system becomes unusable.

Current Jaunty (of 4.4.2009) gets a little choppy when four instances of
the program runs at the same time,.

Jaunty with patched kernel fares best, no choppines when four instances
simultaneously running.

Used test case:

Boinc running on four cores worldcommunitygrid, Firefox with Flash x64
playing a video from Myspace, launching the test program from console.

[Bug 276476] Re: INFO: task blocked for more than 120 seconds causes system freeze

2008-11-13 Thread unikob
Apparently the bug is present even on the server kernel, as I just got
hit with this again.

Uname -a:

Linux ubuntu 2.6.27-8-server #1 SMP Thu Nov 6 18:18:16 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux

And killing Boinc rectifies the system usability.

Previous server-kernels worked fine on my machine, what have changed
between 2.6.27-7 and 2.6.27-8?

[Bug 276476] Re: INFO: task blocked for more than 120 seconds causes system freeze

2008-10-26 Thread unikob
As this happens frequently I've found out that the system recovers from
the freeze and resumes normal operation two to ten minutes after.
However the system continues to freeze periodically after that.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Do something that causes a lot of IO operations ie. copy images,
mp3's around, download Ibex cd-images from the net etc.

2. Wait until system freezes and check out dmesg from terminal (if you
it opens) and you'll see something like this:

[ 9309.344503] INFO: task pdflush:17487 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
[ 9309.344505] "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this

[Bug 276476] Re: INFO: task blocked for more than 120 seconds causes system freeze

2008-10-11 Thread unikob
Changed to linux (kernel) as it appears it is not a nspluginwrapper bug
afterall.

** Summary changed:

- npviewer.bin segfaults, causes havoc, forces to reboot
+ INFO: task blocked for more than 120 seconds causes system freeze

** Description changed:

- Npviewer segfaults when visiting a website on Firefox with flash
- content. After that thunderbird, firefox stop responding and they have
- to be force quitted. Their processes (thunderbird.bin and firefox) can't
- be killed with kill -9 or killall. After a while these messages turn up
- on terminal:
+
+ This appears to be a kernel bug related to IO. Although everytime I get this
I've got Firefox open, latest incident happened when I had mp3gain running
through my music collection.

[Bug 251048] Re: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 11s [compiz.real:7178]

2008-07-23 Thread unikob
Apparently my xorg.conf doesn't have a section for extensions, so I
disabled compiz trough user preferences and tested if I could reproduce
the bug. Srolling trough the document on OpenOffice didn't cause any
anomalies, so I enabled compiz and tested again. This time I got
slightly less garbled screen and could logout cleanly, no soft lockup
this time. This proves it's compiz misbehaving with nvidia's drivers.
Attached the revelant bits of kern.log.

[Bug 217137] Re: Hardy Heron: Nautilus fails to open directory with more than 140 subfolders

2008-06-03 Thread unikob
I got hit by this bug too, today on 8.04 Peculiar thing is that the
folder I'm trying to access has worked like a charm before. Is there
going to be an update that fixes this bug? Or rather, when it will be
released?

Re: [Bug 175807] Re: Font size in gnome keeps changing, settings not honoured

2007-12-12 Thread unikob
I think this qualifies as bug, since this setting is ignored and changing it
doesn't affect anything. That I don't know if this a gnome-control-center
bug or general gnome bug. Either way it doesn't work as expected as it
doesn't work at all.

[Bug 175807] Font size in gnome keeps changing, settings not honoured

2007-12-11 Thread unikob
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The settings I have made in gnome-control-center Appearance Fonts are
ignored after a few restarts. Font size setting for window title seems
to revert to whatever is default in gnome. Eg. I have set the window
title font to be DejaVu Sans Bold size 9 and this morning the window
title font has again changed and grown in size. This has happened quite
a many times. Also, if I make changes now to Fonts they don't affect
current session in anyway.

Not to prior extent, no. I tested this with a few old cd-r's and dvd's. Two
first cd's unmounted fine, the third wouldn't unmount first, but could be
unmounted without using cli. Error message was "umount: /media/cdrom0 : device
is busy
eject: target "/media/cdrom0" unmounting failed ". This could be due to bad
media, attached new kern.log and var_messages.
