Re: [Bug 1859449] Re: Intento fallido de actualizacion

Good Idea!
Unfortunately, since it was a production system, I proceeded to make a copy
of the / bin and / home directories, later running a clean installation.
I acknowledge that I did not check that PPAs were active in the system and
trust that the installer would disable them.

2017-05-03 Thread vik
Al repetir la instalacion el error no se presenta. Puede entonces
tratarse de un hecho aislado o un fallo en la secuencia de instalacion.

When repeating the installation the error does not occur. It may then be
an isolated event or a failure in the installation sequence.

[Bug 1578011] Re: Laptop sometimes doesn't detect external monitor when docked

2016-07-07 Thread vik
I can try to update the BIOS, but given that the BIOS release notes (see
below) don't mention anything regarding this, it's not likely to fix
anything. The issue disappeared for a while, but has returned in the
past month or so; I'm guess a kernel driver update fixed it, then
regressed.

BIOS 1.29 release notes:
[Important updates]
  Nothing.

[New functions or enhancements]
- Updated Realtek v2.06 PXE rom and v2.016 UNDI driver.

[Problem fixes]
  Nothing.

[Bug 1591862] [NEW] [Wishlist] Easy authentication via Bluetooth

2016-06-12 Thread vik
Public bug reported:

For some time, Android has allowed authentication using a paired
bluetooth device. This is particularly convenient, and somewhat secure
(not perfect, but convenience vs security...). Linux can provide
something similar through blueproximity or libpam-blue. However,
blueproximity is more or less abandoned, and is a pain to set up
properly. libpam-blue is similarly tricky to configure (I've not
tested). A quick and painless way to allow a device to be a 'trusted'
device would keep things more secure than autologin, but more convenient
than password.

Some extra thoughts: a companion app on a phone or smartwatch might
provide an extra layer of security, for example using a fingerprint
sensor, or noticing if the phone itself is locked/unlocked.

Strange thing is it sometimes works fine for ages, then other times it
drops out every few seconds; enough to make it unusable.

[Bug 1307778] Re: getent group on trusty returns only local groups

2014-08-26 Thread vik
seguridad

[Bug 666604] Re: [Fujitsu LifeBook T4410] Touchscreen unusual in multi-head system

2014-01-28 Thread vik
I have recently installed 'normal' ubuntu 13.10 on a Fujitsu T5010
tablet (which is almost identical to the T4410 I initially reported this
bug on). The touchscreen and stylus inputs work as they should even with
an external display connected. Which is good news for me. I might try
this on a T4410 soon. But from my perspective this bug has been fixed;
not certain if kubuntu uses a different driver or configuration?

[Bug 1107732] [NEW] Semi-maximises current window - window occurs in two workspaces

2013-01-28 Thread Jo Vik
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1) Semi-maximise window A twice by pressing "Ctrl+Super+Right" twice
2) Go to workspace on the right and check if it's there (Alt+Tab)

Expected result:
Same as for this scenario:
1) Semi-maximise window A by "Ctrl+Super+Right"
2) Go to workspace on the right and check if it's there (Alt+Tab)
I.e. window A is not visible/accessible in the other workspace

Current result:
2) Window A can be seen in two workspaces, since part of it is visible in the
right workspace

[Bug 1100415] [NEW] "git commit" fails if gedit is already opened

2013-01-16 Thread Jo Vik
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open gedit
2) Go to git directory
3) Change a tracked file (file.c)
4) Execute "git add file.c"
5) Set gedit as default editor with "git config --global core.editor gedit"
5) Then "git commit"

Expected result:
gedit opens, user adds comment, saves the file and successfully ends commit:
"[master 31c21eb] USER COMMENT GOES HERE
 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+), 1 deletion(-)"

Current result:
After gedit is opened git immediately outputs following message:
"Aborting commit due to empty commit message."

It's a common issue when using gedit with git; not related to Linux
distro or its architecture (x86 or x86-64)

when I power cycle the PC. It's very annoying and disturbing, since I'm
used to work with 20% brightness, but after restart my eyes are burned
with 100%.

This shuold be either configurable or Ubuntu should apply last screen
brightness settings when gdm is called.

PS. Is this a bug or a wish list?

I have the same issue. I tested it with the latest upstream kernel (from
your previous comment) and the bug is not fixed there. I am open to more

Thanks

[Bug 1007336] [NEW] ~/.recently-used.xbel disappearing after login vmware player empty vm list

2012-06-01 Thread Vik Heyndrickx
Public bug reported:

After logging in in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (all updates installed to date), an
existing file ~/.recently-used.xbel disappears each time, which makes it
easy to reproduce.

vmware player 4.0.x uses this file (probably via gtk) to store its list
of recently opened VMs. Because this files gets deleted just after
logging in, the list of available VMs in vmware player will be empty,
and will have to be recreated.

I have been unable to find which process deletes this file, or why.
Apparently apparmor might have to do something with it (see apparmor
config file), but I don't think so, since changing its config file to
exclude this file doesn't resolve it.

In my opinion deleting this file is a bug, or at least an undocumented
feature where there should be an option to avoid the deletion.

terminals, executing bunch of commands in each of them. As I understand
commands are saved to bash_history, when terminal is closed. I thought
they were written real time. Sorry for bugging you.

[Bug 877820] [NEW] Can't get X running on 27" iMac (Radeon gfx) in 11.10

2011-10-18 Thread vik
Public bug reported:

I have tried a clean install of ubuntu amd64 on an 2009 (early 2010?)
imac 27" with ATI/Radeon graphics. Install works fine, but there is no
way I can get X running. A default boot gets some of the way, then
presents a blank screen, which I can't get past (the OS still appears to
be running though) I have tried the nomodeset radeon.modeset=0 kernel
options, but there is no failsafeX in the recovery menu anymore, which
got me through last time. I have tried dropping into a shell to install
the fglrx drivers via jockey-text, but this doesn't seem to work either.

[Bug 747585] Re: Mouse and Keyboard keep focus in one window

2011-04-06 Thread Jo Vik
I've located the problem in my case. Apparently my mouse buttons wared-
off (8 years old Logitech), which leaded to sporadic short circuits.
However, Mac OS X and Vista seem to handle issue much better. Now I'm
using a new mouse and so far - no problems.

I found a thread with similar issue on one of the forums. It turns out this
problem is above Linux distributions because it's related to X.org. Here is
Google Translate of the thread:
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=pl&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.linux.pl%2Fviewtopic.php%3Fid%3D17388%26action%3Dnew&act=url

You can try to edit your xorg.conf file.

[Bug 666604] [NEW] Touchscreen unusual in multi-head system

2010-10-25 Thread vik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I'm using a touchscreen laptop (fujitsu T4410). Touchscreen works fine,
but when I plug an (non-touchscreen) external monitor in and go dual-
head, the touch functionality 'stretches' across the multiple screens.
e.g. I have the external monitor above the laptop monitor. When I touch
the bottom of the touchscreen, the touch is (almost) correct. When I
touch the top of the touchscreen, the pointer goes to the top of the
external monitor. Same situation in the vertical dimension.

What should happen is that touch events only occur on the touchscreen
monitor

This may be tricky, as the touch driver (for this particular machine) is
wacom, so the machine probably sees the touch device as a wacom pen
tablet.

So you're suggesting he buy the ns30 dvd drive. Its cheaper to just dual
boot or switch to mandriva, but thanks for your efforts in development.
Mandriva will work

I have switched to using nouveau, which I understand is replacing nv.

this bug is listed as fixed in udev 10 and up, but i have the same
problem in udev 11 with a 'HL-DT-ST' 'DVDRAM GH41N drive. It won't read
blank dvd's. It used to just find before lucid.

[Bug 534307] Re: cdrkit ftbfs on all archs in lucid

2010-04-16 Thread Vik
Thank you for fixing this, Ubuntu! please use the newest beta version of
cdrecord over alpha 77, in the final release. Alpha 77 still gave me
compatibility problems, could not burn in all modes, however, the beta
released in february worked like a charm. Thank you so much! wodim is a
mess, couldn't burn with it at all.

sorry, last correction, I just tried the new cdrtools beta released in
febuary, i can now burn at all speeds in any mode. Hope it works for you
if your still following this thread! k3b still reads it as cdrtools
alpha 77 but this package works flawlessly, its the beta released right
after alpha 77

[Bug 397806] Re: cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!

2010-04-13 Thread Vik
Andrei, and anybody else who this may help, I found a workaround...
the solution to your problem is to go to cdrecord's website and download the
newest version of cdrecord. Lets say you download it to your Downloads folder.
Unzip it, and in the terminal type (without quotes) "cd /home/david(you're user
name I'm assuming)/Downloads/(the name of the cdr-tools folder, ex.
cdrtools-2.01a)
then type "sudo make", hit enter, it'll ask for your password, type it and hit
enter. Then type "sudo make install".
Now type these commands, enter after each line. This will move out of the way
the useless wodim files previously on your computer, you can copy and paste
these lines to your terminal.
sudo mkdir /opt/schily/replacedfiles
sudo mv /usr/bin/cdrecord /opt/schily/replacedfiles
sudo mv /usr/bin/genisoimage /opt/schily/replacedfiles
sudo mv /usr/bin/mkisofs /opt/schily/replacedfiles
sudo mv /usr/bin/readom /opt/schily/replacedfiles
sudo mv /usr/bin/wodim /opt/schily/replacedfiles
next you'll link your new files to where k3b will look, hit enter after each
line, you can copy and paste
sudo ln -s /opt/schily/bin/cdrecord /usr/bin/cdrecord
sudo ln -s /opt/schily/bin/mkisofs /usr/bin/genisoimage
sudo ln -s /opt/schily/bin/mkisofs /usr/bin/mkisofs
sudo ln -s /opt/schily/bin/readcd /usr/bin/readom
sudo ln -s /opt/schily/bin/cdrecord /usr/bin/wodim
sudo ln -s /opt/schily/bin/readcd /usr/bin/readcd
sudo ln -s /opt/schily/bin/mkhybrid /usr/bin/mkhybrid
sudo ln -s /opt/schily/bin/cdda2wav /usr/bin/cdda2wav
now install k3b and write in RAW mode, I wouldn't go higher than 8x. You'll be
able to write cds now. The whole reason you had this problem was because Ubuntu
does not come with an original version of cdrecord, but an inferior modified
version. Please Ubuntu, in 10.04 please please please use the full original
version of cdrecord. You can burn DVD's in Dao mode, i think because it uses
dvdtools, I wouldn't go higher than 4x.
