[Bug 378794] Re: screen corruption with latest update

2010-02-19 Thread Vikram Dhillon
Seems like these statements:

Not using default mode some_resolution (exceeds panel dimensions)
Not using default mode some_resolution (monitor doesn't support reduced
blanking)

are causing the issue and thanks for checking this against the latest
kernel, that saves me the trouble of asking you to do so :) I wonder if
this is causing the tearing on the screenshot. Alright so I have a
silly solution that might just work: For your monitor connection try
the VGA port instead of DVI, here [1] it seems to work but its a
different card though.

In addition to that, paste back the output of xrandr, this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/396171 seems to have problems related to
the screen refresh rate.

[Bug 384490] Re: [i945] System with Intel 945GM freezes

2010-02-19 Thread Vikram Dhillon
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I am currently unable to reproduce this bug with the
instructions you gave in the description (I have the same graphics
card),there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you
reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the
updates. If you could test the current Ubuntu development version, this
would help us a lot. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we
would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-
collect 384490, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular
issue.

Yes I think it would be nice to close this ticket as obsolete (should I do
it since I have raised this issue ?).

Vikram, thank you for the quick response. I'm not 100% sure what you

Launchpad does not support that AFAIK.

Going through your logs, it seems that this was a dependency-specific
issue and those are usually release-specific and (hopefully) should not
reoccur during a later release. Second, the only indication that I can
find that your upgrade ultimately failed is from the screenshots, at
least I cannot find what is ultimately failing in the text logs.

My recommendation would be to close this ticket as obsolete. What do
 you think?

[Bug 511448] [NEW] Please sync libxml-security-java (1.4.3-2) from Debian Testing

2010-01-22 Thread Vikram Dhillon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libxml-security-java

Changelogs:

Latest Debian Changelog:
libxml-security-java (1.4.3-2) unstable; urgency=low

   [ Thierry Carrez ]
   * debian/build.xml: Build Java2 code to match runtime dependency
   * debian/build.xml: Fix the jar packaging to include resources
 (Closes: #557306)

   [ Niels Thykier ]
   * Removed ${shlibs:Depends} from Depends; does not make sense for java.
 -- Niels Thykier ni...@thykier.net Mon, 30 Nov 2009 22:20:10 +0100

Latest Ubuntu Changelog:
libxml-security-java (1.4.3-1ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian testing, remaining changes:
- debian/build.xml: Build Java2 code to match runtime dependency
- debian/build.xml: Fix the jar packaging to include resources
- debian/control: Depend on JRE /and/ shlibs:Depends, rather than /or/

libxml-security-java (1.4.3-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * (Build-)Depends on default-jdk.
  * Build-Depends on debhelper = 7.
  * Moved package to section 'java'.
  * Addded myself to Uploaders.
  * Updated Standards-Version to 3.8.3.
 -- Thierry Carrez thierry.car...@ubuntu.com Fri, 13 Nov 2009 14:12:03
+0100

I have checked that most of the Ubuntu changes have been incorporate in
upstream Debian, so the package can be synced. I am providing a diff
that has the changes to the changelog and control file. The package also
builds fine in a lucid chroot:

dpkg-deb: building package `libxml-security-java' in
`../libxml-security-java_1.4.3-2_all.deb'.
 dpkg-genchanges ../libxml-security-java_1.4.3-2_i386.changes
dpkg-genchanges: not including original source code in upload
dpkg-buildpackage: binary and diff upload (original source NOT included)
I: Copying back the cached apt archive contents
I: unmounting dev/pts filesystem
I: unmounting proc filesystem
I: cleaning the build env
I: removing directory /var/cache/pbuilder/build//13349 and its subdirectories

** Affects: libxml-security-java (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 507778] [NEW] Please merge acpid (1:2.0.0-1) from Debian testing

2010-01-14 Thread Vikram Dhillon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpid

Changelogs:

Latest Debian Changelog:
 acpid (1:2.0.0-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * Put kacpimon back into the right section and priority.
   * Make loading of all modules work with modules.dep files with
 relative paths. (Closes: #563915)
   * Do not include /etc/default/rcS in init script because it is not needed.

 -- Michael Meskes mes...@debian.org Fri, 08 Jan 2010 09:16:54 +0100

Latest Ubuntu Changelog:
acpid (1.0.10-5ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian testing. Remaining changes:
- Replace init script with Upstart job.
  - This does not load modules, unlike the init script, since these are
all loaded by ACPI:* modaliases now (and thus by udev)
- debian/control:
  - Bump build-dependency on debhelper for Upstart-aware dh_installinit
- debian/preinst, debian/acpid.install, debian/control, debian/rules:
  continue installing /etc/acpi/events/powerbtn and /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh,
deferring the migration to acpi-support-base; and drop the Recommends:
on acpi-support-base for the same reason.

acpid (1.0.10-5) unstable; urgency=high

  * Correct permissions that were incorrectly set by very old acpid versions.
This fixes CVE-2009-4235. (Closes: #560771)
 -- Steve Langasek steve.langa...@ubuntu.com Wed, 23 Dec 2009 00:32:09

 Hundred Paper Cuts.

Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts: New
Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
When 9.10 was released, the Update Manager showed a message. I put the CD
into the reader, but the Update Manager wouldn't use this image. At first it
showed a package update with more than 1.000 package updates. This should
have been a message saying: Would you like to update to Ubuntu 9.10., or
something similar. Afterwards (I said 'No'), the Update Manager never let me
update from CD, so I had to do a clean install.

Alright so if you downloaded a CD then all you have to do is put the
cd in and then browse to the cd, after that click on the update script
and that should do the job.

only want to use it. That is a tribute to how good Linux is.

The Debian changes can be safely incorporated into Ubuntu, since this is
going to be a merge, I'll provide the patch in a minute. The package
builds fine in a lucid chroot:

 dpkg-genchanges ../mew_6.3-1_i386.changes
