[Bug 500219] [NEW] mp3 player not recognised

2009-12-24 Thread vmos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mtpfs

I've got this sony mp3 player (nwz-b135) that kubuntu refuses to recognise. I'm
on 9.10 (64bit) now and it worked fine on 9.04 (I've had to do a format and
reinstall since then) it also works on the same machine if I use an ubuntu
livecd so it's not a hardware issue. If I plug it in, the lcd shows connected
but kubuntu does nothing.
Here's some output.

dmesg

[ 1493.491397] usb 2-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
[ 1493.645422] usb 2-5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 1493.645839] scsi9 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
[ 1493.645900] usb-storage: device found at 4
[ 1493.645902] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning

and that's all it does, it never settles no matter how many times I switch it
out or what port I try.

lsusb shows it up

I'm not 100% sure it's down to mtpfs but it's my best guess so far,
apologies if ti's not.

[Bug 403610] Re: kde 4.3 Multiple Monitors tells lies

2009-11-06 Thread vmos
I've done a fresh install of 9.10 and I'm having this problem too even
though it worked fine uner 9.04 (admittedly I had to manually edit my
xorg.conf to do it) this should absolutely not be a low priority issue,
it's not like multiple monitors are uncommon these days

[Bug 386533] [NEW] samba config menu too big

2009-06-12 Thread vmos
Public bug reported:

Using Kubuntu 9.04 - resolution 1024x768
If I go to system settings - advanced - samba the configuration dialog that
appears is too big. The ok, apply buttons are off the bottom of the screen. I
can't move the window up, I can't resize it vertically, changing theme makes no
difference, I just have to hit tab a bunch of times and hope for the best.

[Bug 147298] Re: [Gutsy] AD198x Analog: microphone misconfigured

2008-03-11 Thread vmos
I have no USB audio devices, my soundcard is a creative 5.1 which is usually
alright with multiple aplications (besides It gives the error when there's no
other apps running) I have an ac 97 built into the motherboard, it was disable
in bios already but I tried deactivating it through the sound mixer, no change.
Incidentally I tried switching to pulse audio and that sets me back to the
original Failed to construct test pipeline error
but if I set sound capture to pulse audio and set default mixer device to
capture - monitor source of alsa pcm I can get sound recorder running again,
although at very low volume

but no matter what I do, skype still won't work

also, also, vumeter -r was working but somewhere around my fiddling
with changing settings to pulseaudio and back it stopped reacting, even
though I can still hear sound from the mic coming through the speakers.

I'll keep at it, if I make any progress I'll let you know

[Bug 147298] Re: [Gutsy] AD198x Analog: microphone misconfigured

2008-03-10 Thread vmos
hallo, I'm on gutsy 7.10, installed from scratcha couple months ago, not an
upgrade. Analogue mic. Sound worked fine but skype gave call failed, audio
playback error
checked sound preferences, all ok except conferenceing sound capture which gave
the error seen at the top
Failed to construct test pipeline for 'gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert !
audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat'
faffed about with the settings a bit (can't remember exactly what, sorry) and
sound recorder would work fine but I was still getting the error and skype
still wouldn't work.
So I tried Aleph42s solution of setting all levels to non zero

now when I try testing the audio conferencing sound capture I get this error
gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat:
Resource busy or not available
and now sound recorder won't even start, it gives this error Your audio
capture settings are invalid. Please correct them in the Multimedia settings.

rest of the sound still seems to work though
