[Bug 248355] Re: Evince doesn't anti-alias graphics

2010-12-14 Thread vvdghj
Evince is not perfect for reading Google (e)books. See attachments in which
Evince makes parts of the text completely disappear, wheras Foxit renders them
well.

[Bug 461956] Re: system freezes

2010-08-28 Thread vvdghj
Sorry, I can not tell. After trying other linux distros, that were even
worse on my system, I reinstalled Windows XP on that old Toshiba
machine. Basing on the information on other fora that treated the
freezing issue, I concluded that xserver could not cooperate with my
(obsolete) intel graphic chipset. The work arounds on these fora (switch
back to earlier versions) seem to indicate that lucid does not resolve
the freezing ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes ).

[Bug 461163] Re: Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes.

2009-11-17 Thread vvdghj
Would it be possible, that the upgrade to 9.10 causes changes in the
partition of the hard disk? After deleting the entire 9.10 disk and ext3
reformatting deeper analysis with testdisk reports warnings and some
large unformatted sector. Strangely enough, the now external reformatted
9.10 disk keeps freezing my sytem, which now runs on 9.04 and never had
froozen until the former 9.10 disk was mounted.

Trying this work around resulted in the 9.04 desktop, but the mouse
was not responding...

Julien ,  That may work.. but the problem isn't solved that way...
something is seriously wrong with compiz / gnome / intel 950 card... and
 yet it worked before.

If the solution is to use the older driver,  then by all means have the
old driver be part of the initial install.  I noted before (and still
firmly believe) than you can't have someone new to Ubuntu throw in that
live CD .. then be faced with a complete lockup of their machine.

You just need one influential blogger to go out and say that happened on
their box... and bingo.. Ubuntu will be known as lockup central.

Now I have successful upgraded 7 machines in this office to Ubuntu 9.10
.. not a hitch.. it's just that machine that runs the Intel 950 graphic
accelerator.   The problem is that it was a very popular card...  so the
chances are this is a bigger problem... much bigger than what is being
reported because the machine locks up to the point where it can't
report... meaning you're not getting any automated crash reports from
it.. because the machine doesn't crash.. it locks.

 Status in Ubuntu: New

 Bug description:
This is my problem --  I can't boot in Gnome proper -- must use failsafe ..
Just did an upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 from 9.04 ... upgrade went ok..  then
within 30 seconds in Gnome.. it freezes... freezes to the point where I can't
even move the mouse, type anything..  must do hard reboot.

Now Gnome failsafe works fine,  I installed KDE to see if that works.. no
 problem...  just Gnome.

I can't even see what the problem is because the computer locks up to the
point where a hard reboot is needed.

 It's a Compaq Presario - Celeron D
 Intel 950 Video Card
 1.5 GB ram

I cannot provide you with any more information regarding it because honestly
the computer locks up to the point where I can't reach terminal or click on
anything to find out what is wrong.

Now I am not a big fan of having to use Gnome Failsafe...   I can provide you
any information you need when the computer is in Gnome failsafe.. but I
cannot report squat when it locks up in Gnome

Worth Nothing,  this machine ran Ubuntu 9.04 without fail or errors...

[Bug 461956] Re: system freezes

2009-10-31 Thread vvdghj
The bug is not caused by the flash crash during the upgrade. Freezing
continues in a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 on a brand new hard disk.
Seem to be caused by the sytem (8 years old Toshiba Satellite A10)
and/or the Ubuntu software. Ubuntu Vista?

[Bug 252900] Re: vfat : wubi 8.04.1-rev506 kernel upgrade fails

Since there is a new kernel available, this bug is not elevant any more.
Just clean up the buggish kernel and it will not bother you with
crashing updates.
