[Bug 5801] Re: (NVidia only) Wrong default and maximum resolution on widescreen monitor (stretched 1024x768) on GeForce 6200

2007-03-01 Thread wax
I have a nvidia GeForce 6200 card and am using the nvidia-glx package. I
was having the same/similar problem on my desktop, (this problem occured
after the upgrade from 6.06 to 6.10, now i have 7.04 herd 4 and the
problem still exists.) The resolution was set to 1600*1200 but the
actual resolution was 1024*768 witch was pretty annoying. I bumped in to
the following solution

Open your /etc/X11/xorg.conf search for the section device and ad Option
"useEDID" "False" and restart your xserver (ctrl+alt+backspace)

It might work in this case. I looked to the other bugs listed above and
none of the offered solutions worked

[Bug 5801] Re: (NVidia only) Wrong default and maximum resolution on widescreen monitor (stretched 1024x768) on GeForce 6200

2007-03-14 Thread wax
my solution does not work in all cases...
I did figure out if i put my resolution to 1024*768 it switches to 800*600 but
it sais 1024*768 in the screen resolution settings panel.
I looked at my xorg.conf and everything seems ok.

[Bug 92780] [feisty] ctrl+alt+backspace fails

2007-03-16 Thread wax
Public bug reported:

When i am working in gnome and try a ctrl+alt+backspace, the xserver fails to
restart.
it freezes on running local boot scripts (etc/rc.local).
When i try the same from the safe mode, i get xinit: connection to xserver lost
I can not find any information in my logs(not sure where too look).
When i do ctrl+alt+backspace from the login screen, there is no problem and
xserver just restarts.

[Bug 92780] Re: [feisty] ctrl+alt+backspace fails

2007-03-16 Thread wax

I get an error trying to start x from a new console, and i can not find
the errors in my logs so i wrote them down(sorry if there are writing
errors)

creating new authority file /home/gast/.serverauth.16815
server already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /temp/.xorglock and start again

Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keygiving up

xinit: Interupted system call (errno4): unable to connect to xserver
xinit:no such process(errno3) server error

The only thing that gets loged in my xorg is

I don't know for sure if this had to do with the bug ass i did not
reboot before i tried the console login

[Bug 103720] f-spot fails to import images with a space in there name

2007-04-06 Thread wax
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

I searched trough the bugs and i can find import bugs but not exactly
the same as mine so i hope this is not a duplicate

 I use ubuntu 7.04 and f-spot 0.3.5-2
When i want to import images, f-spot starts to import but when it has a file
with space in the name, it stops and does not import any further. It is a bit
strange as it does import an image that is called foto 18.jpg but not a picture
that is called" Kat leeuw.jpeg", but i think it's because in the last case the
space is somehow represented by a %20 (i got the image from the web) and in the
first case i got the image directly from my camera
it seems that the problem only occurs on images witch i downloaded from the net

[Bug 352814] Re: Unable to login to aMSN after latest updates

2009-04-02 Thread wax
for the people who like to work with windows alike messengers, there is
still emesene. or kmess as a temporary solution.

I tried installing amsn trough there autopackage to see if it also gives
problems. It does, i got an error telling me tkcximage failed. After some
research i found out this error happens when different versions of tcl are
installed (8.4 and 8.5 in my case).
I deleted amsn-data and reinstalled amsn(tcl8.5) trough autopackage(did not
touch tcl) and amsn installed but the problem remains. Not able to connect.

Nex thing i tried was installing amsn(tcl8.4 version) witch gave me a tk error,
so i had to install tk8.4
it downloaded x86 version of msn protocol(amsn asks when starting up) and i am
able to get online :D

i'm going to try install tk 8.5 and then install trough autopackage to
see if it also works.

[Bug 352814] Re: Unable to login to aMSN after latest updates

2009-04-02 Thread wax
update: tk8.5 + autopackage gives me the tcximage failed error again and a load
of 'cp: not writing through dangling symlink ' errors when installing.
also tk8.5+amsn deb package won't work.

So to use amsn i needen to go to console and install

sudo apt-get install tk8.4

download distribution independent installer for those who already have
Tcl/Tk 8.4

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/amsn/amsn-0.97.2-1.tcl84.x86.package

make the file executable in file properties

Install (this also installs autopackage wich you need to remove amsn
when you want to use the deb version again(it can be found in
applications=> system tools)

enjoy amsn untill deb package is fixed :)

[Bug 352814] Re: Unable to login to aMSN after latest updates

2009-04-02 Thread wax
@ endless,
make sure you meet dependencies of autopackage. If install fails, install
trough your terminal, there you can mostly find more information about the
difficulty you're facing.

if your amsn does not want to install from synaptic, then you're
probably facing some other difficulty.

I guess users must also be aware of the fact this bug is appearing in a
BETA version of ubuntu witch is not a fully functional environment...

Just to make sure this is not a complete off topic post I'll post my kernel
information

[Bug 66900] Re: APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)

2008-06-12 Thread wax
I upgraded my bios yesterday (from version 1.22 to 1.40)and got rid of the"
CPU1: Temperature/speed normal message" in 64 bit mode. I asume this is the
apic(40) error in 32 bit mode.
My cpu is now running a lot cooler.

So the people with acer asprire 7720 might fix this with a bios upgrade

[Bug 66900] Re: APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)

2008-05-15 Thread wax
i know there are several reasons why this bug could be apearing
I happend to get this error to in my log 100's of times. I tried blacklisting
my firewire modules as i assumed they were the problem but the are not.

I found out this error only gets printed in my log when my cpu fan is
turning and not when it is silent, this error also apears a lot when the
fan just starts to rotate.

I have an acer aspire 7720z (not with latest bios but that wil be installed
this weekend and that might solve the error)
Hope this might help someone to find a sollution for at least on of these errors
