[Bug 1093085] Re: wireless headphone's radio stick removal freezes laptop

2012-12-23 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
OK, so this time when my daughter pulled the stick out, immediate kernel
panic resulted. Should I run the apport command again? Should I file
this as a kernel bug?

[Bug 1093085] [NEW] wireless headphone's radio stick removal freezes laptop

2012-12-22 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

I have a Logitech H600 wireless head phone. When I remove the radio USB
stick, my Lenovo X220 freezes. It becomes completely inoperable, and
all I can do is shut down with the power button. The behavior is
reproduceable.

Though I have been doing this radio removal on a regular basis (say,
once a week), I saw the crash only in the last week or so. I do update
the 12.04 system diligently. Please let me know which package I should
look at.

I don't see the problem when I remove the radio stick for my (also
logitech) mouse.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 877890] [NEW] Update manager cannot upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10

2011-10-18 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

I got the following error

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug update-manager' in a terminal.

Pls let me know what further info I should provide. I think the main 3rd
party software is Gnome3, but on my two other ubuntu boxes he upgrade
went with no problem, though I have gnome3 there too.

[Bug 488455] Re: /dev/video0 permission problem

Yeah fixing both the ownership (to root.video) and the permissions (to
660) fix the problem. Until the camera gets unplugged and plugged back
in because then a new /dev/shm file gets created. So would installing
the debian package on an ubuntu box work?

[Bug 488455] Re: /dev/video0 permission problem

2009-12-06 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
Actually, I think the owner of the /dev/shm/usb-* file is always
root.root.  Look

$ ls -l /dev/shm/usb-*
ls: /dev/shm/usb-* nem érhető el: Nincs ilyen fájl vagy könyvtár
$ whoami
apu

plug in camera

$ ls -l /dev/shm/usb-*
-rw--- 1 root root 4096 2009-12-06 22:07 /dev/shm/usb-:00:1a.1-2:USB
Camera (046d:08da)

Is the debian patch you mentioned available for 64 bit boxes as well?
(B/c the debian bug page you refer to lists only i386 packages.

Anyho, thx for looking into this.

[Bug 488455] Re: /dev/video0 permission problem

2009-12-04 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
Yes, the problem is that

$ ls -l /dev/shm/usb-\:00\:1a.1-2\:USB\ Camera\ \(046d\:08da\)
-rw--- 1 root root 4096 2009-12-02 01:14 /dev/shm/usb-:00:1a.1-2:USB
Camera (046d:08da)

I got this from another bugreport (I think debian). Where these
permissions are set, I have no idea---I certainly couldn't see anything
in /etc/udev. Even if I change it to 666, it changes back to 600 after
reboot. That bugreport claimed that the problem was fixed back in
August. Why this is a problem of low importance is not clear to me. I
think the problem affects everybody on a 64 bit box trying to use skype
because the permissions are probably set by the v4l1 compatibility
package.

[Bug 488391] Re: intermittent very slow X login with eventual dbus error

2009-12-04 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
This launcpad doesn't seem to let me attach more than one file, so I
just put them up on the web. The first file is the result of

gnome-session --debug 21 | tee gnome-session.log

when run during a regular gnome session (I just thought, I'd try it).
The second is when I logged in to an xterm under gdm. While the problem
I am reporting is intermittent (say one out of 10 logins), this time
after running the command you told me to run, it took me 4 attempts till
I could log in properly. During the unsuccessful attempts, I could not
click on panel items. One more remark: when I logged in to the failsafe
session, I could start an emacs form the xtemr, but not a firefox.

[Bug 488391] Re: intermittent very slow X login with eventual dbus error

2009-12-04 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
I should have answered your questions: so I had a fresh install of
ubuntu 9.04 on this box about 2 months ago, and then when the 9.10
update came out (Nove 1st), I updated. I had the problem with login
from the start (so even with 9.04). I changed one thing in X: 3 weeks
after the distro upgrade X suddenly started to display only in very low
resolution, so I manually added a 1680x1050 resolution. Here is my
xorg.conf (beginning comments stripped)

Section Device
Identifier  Configured Video Device
EndSection

Section Monitor
Identifier  Configured Monitor
ModeLine 1680x1050_60.00  146.25  1680 1784 1960 2240  1050 1053 1059
1089 -hsync +vsync
EndSection

Section Screen
Identifier  Default Screen
Monitor Configured Monitor
Device  Configured Video Device
Subsection Display
Modes 1680x1050_60.00
EndSubsection
EndSection

Perhaps I should try to take a video of an unsuccessful login?

[Bug 491434] [NEW] users-admin fakes adding groups with existing gid

2009-12-02 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I start users-admin, and I try to add a new group. The first error
(IMO) is that I am presented with gid 0. I leave that, and try to add,
say, group oki. The tool shows on the bottom of the list of groups that
oki is added. I close tool, but /etc/group shows no group oki. When I
reopen users-admin, and I open manage groups of course there is no
group oki.

You can repeat the same thing with any existing gid: try to add a group
with an existing gid, and users-admin will fake adding it.

Both bugs (initial gid 0 and faking the addition of a group with
existing gid) are reproducible in Ubuntu 9.10 fully updated.

[Bug 491434] Re: users-admin fakes adding groups with existing gid

2009-12-02 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
I noticed that the same happens when you try to add a user with an
existing uid. The tool even claims that the new user's home directory
is added. On the other hand, at least the initially proposed uid is not
0.

Why not give a *warning* (not error) message when a duplicate uid is
given in the tool, and if user confirms, run useradd and groupadd with
the -o option.

No, what I see is this (maybe different bug): I open users-admin, I
unlock, select the current user, and click on properties. When I try to
change the password---so I enter the new password and press Change
password, the tool just waits indefinitely. I cannot say it hangs,
because I can click on the Quit button (maybe Exit button---I have
Hungarian locale).

To make matters even more confusing, when I add a new user with an

[Bug 431303] Re: /dev/video

2009-11-30 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
On my fully updated box I have

$ ls -l /dev/shm/usb-\:00\:1a.0-2\:USB\ Camera\ \(046d\:08da\)
-rw--- 1 root root 4096 2009-11-30 13:36 /dev/shm/usb-:00:1a.0-2:USB

The ubuntu libv4l-0 version is 0.6.0-1 and if it is the same as in
Debian, then the 0.6.0-2 version supposedly fixed the problem. I remark
that the permission error happens only on my 64 bit box; the same camera
works fine on a 32 bit installation of Ubuntu 9.10.

[Bug 488200] [NEW] gspca driver doesn't work on 64 bit

2009-11-25 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

On my Ubuntu 9.10, 64 bit system, Quickam messenger doesn't work. A
typical error I get is exhibited when I try to run cheese

** (cheese:11361): WARNING **: Failed to open /dev/video0: Engedély

(which means: permission denied)

But I have

$ ls -l /dev/video0
crw-rw+ 1 root video 81, 0 2009-11-23 23:48 /dev/video0
$ whoami
apu
$ grep video /etc/group

Also

$ lsusb |grep -i quick
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 046d:08da Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Messanger
$ lsmod |grep vid
videodev   43360  1 gspca_main

v4l2_compat_ioctl3213344  1 videodev
video  23612  1 i915
output  3680  1 video

The same camera works fine on my laptop which also runs 9.10, but it is
32 bit.

When I run camorama, it reports: Could not connect to video device
(/dev/video0) and when I try preloading v4l2convert, so I run

$ env LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so camorama

compatibility, at least I get the camorama window, but I also get an
error window saying Cannot capture image.

Here are the details about my sytem (this thing allows me to attach only
one file!)

[Bug 488391] [NEW] intermittent very slow X login with eventual dbus error

2009-11-25 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dbus

Intermittently, my login to X is extremely slow (3-4 minutes), and I get
a dbus error, and some of the gnome-panel applets cannot start. Since
this is a new, 64 bit, amd quad machine, this behavior puzzles me.
Please help me to debug this. Here is my .xsession-errors right after
such a slow login

[Bug 488455] [NEW] /dev/video0 permission problem

2009-11-25 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

I can use my webcamera only as root, though the device's permissions
seem fine.

$ xawtv -c /dev/video0
This is xawtv-3.95.dfsg.1, running on Linux/x86_64 (2.6.31-15-generic)
xinerama 0: 1680x1050+0+0
WARNING: No DGA direct video mode for this display.

v4l2: open /dev/video0: Engedély megtagadva
v4l: open /dev/video0: Engedély megtagadva

(Engedély megtagadva = Permission denied)

But I have

$ ls -l /dev/video0
crw-rw-rw-+ 1 root video 81, 0 2009-11-25 13:45 /dev/video0
$ whoami
apu
$ grep video /etc/group

The camera works fine with the command

sudo xawtv -c /dev/video0

[Bug 487454] [NEW] Quickam messenger doesn't work

2009-11-23 Thread wierdlm...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cheese

On my Ubuntu 9.10, 64 bit system, Quickam messenger doesn't work. A
typical error I get is exhibited when I try to run cheese

** (cheese:11361): WARNING **: Failed to open /dev/video0: Engedély
megtagadva

(which means: permission denied)

But I have

$ ls -l /dev/video0
crw-rw+ 1 root video 81, 0 2009-11-23 23:48 /dev/video0
$ whoami
apu
$ grep video /etc/group
video:x:44:dori,marci,apu

Also

$ lsusb |grep -i quick
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 046d:08da Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Messanger
$ lsmod |grep vid
videodev   43360  1 gspca_main
v4l1_compat16804  1 videodev
v4l2_compat_ioctl3213344  1 videodev
video  23612  1 i915
output  3680  1 video

The same camera works fine on my laptop which also runs 9.10, but it is
32 bit.

When I run camorama, it reports: Could not connect to video device
(/dev/video0) and when I try preloading v4l2convert, so I run

$ env LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so camorama

compatibility, at least I get the camorama window, but I also get an
error window saying Cannot capture image.
