[Bug 995886] Re: browse/import photos from camera broken in 12.04

@Sebastien:

I've just added it in Gnome bugs: Bug 679251
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=679251

Is this enough? Where should we move from here?

[Bug 995886] Re: browse/import photos from camera broken in 12.04

2012-06-17 Thread wild_oscar
@seb128 - the description seems pretty similar to this one, though: the
computer freezes because it doesn't have resources to keep up with hdd
hammering. If I plug the camera off it resumes.

I will report the bug as you suggested and will link it here, so you can
decide if they're related.

[Bug 1014333] [NEW] Cannot import photos or browse directories Canon 20D

2012-06-17 Thread wild_oscar
Public bug reported:

I have a Canon 20D and in 12.04 I stopped being able to browse or import
photos.

I've tried connecting the camera via usb (normal, not PTP, mode) on 3 computers:

- Laptop 1 with Ubuntu 12.04
- Laptop 2 with Ubuntu 12.04
- Desktop with Ubuntu 10.10

On both Ubuntu 12.04 machines, in Nautilus:
1) I can open the [Camera]/DCIM directory;
2) When I try to open a xxxCanon directory the computer will stop responding,
hard drive will start to be hammered and will stay like that for a long time
(one hour or so) or until I plug the camera off

On my 10.10 desktop machine I can import the pictures from the exact
same camera and usb cable. It's imports without any problems or hickups.

How can I help you guys figure this out? It's a blocker bug for using
the computer with the camera.

I also posted on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/995886 which I
considered to be very similar to my problem.

Could this be the same issue as

The result problem seems to be the same:
1) impossible to import photos
2) full hd activity for indefinite period of time once we try to open a

[Bug 931637] Re: Firefox 10.0.1 crashes when trying to enter a command on the Web Console

2012-05-04 Thread wild_oscar
I have the following packages in Maverick 10.10:

firefox 11.0+build1-0ubuntu0.10.10.2
gcc 4:4.4.4-1ubuntu2

I still see this issue, so the fix doesn't seem to be working.

Any update on the subject?

Matthias Klose: does that mean packages will be added to the updates in
lucid/maverick?

I've just confirmed the presence of this bug in Maverick with Firefox
10.0.2-ubuntu.

1) Start firefox
2) Open the console tab in firebug
3) write self
4) Firefox crashes.

I've tested with a clean Firefox 10.0.2 version from Mozilla's website and the
problem isn't there, which means this is definitely an issue with Ubuntu's
Firefox version.

[Bug 925350] Re: Display problem (thin fading white vertical lines) after kernel upgrade to 3.0.0.15, no login window

2012-02-18 Thread wild_oscar
Hi Seth,

With the broken kernel, try each of the following options by modifying
the kernel command line in grub. Report back which work and which don't.

  i915.lvds_use_ssc=0
 i915.lvds_use_ssc=1
  i915.lvds_use_ssc=-1

I can boot with 0! 1 and -1 don't work.

As for the ssh, yes, that was correct: I can ping/ssh in a working
kernel, not with the broken one.

Grub doesn't have any setting with that name (it isn't the backlight

Modprobe has a few blacklist files:

[Bug 925350] Re: Display problem (thin fading white vertical lines) after kernel upgrade to 3.0.0.15, no login window

2012-02-15 Thread wild_oscar
Seth:
It was with the working kernel - set #9 in this bug report, actually - the
kernel with your commit reverted.

I tried with the broken one, both by ssh-ing and connecting it to an
external monitor, but had no luck: could not ssh into the machine and
the external monitor displayed a black screen with the ubuntu logo (the
splash screen that usually hides the boot messages)

I am now in a 3.0.0-14 boot and right now/proc/cmdline has

BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.0.0-14-generic root=UUID=6ab741a0-9959-4edd-
ba60-0cdc28c819de ro quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor vt.handoff=7

I confirmed these are the same options as I see in Grub in the broken 15
kernel.

I've also just grep-ed i915 in modprobe.d/* but no file has any
reference to it. I suppose these files wouldn't be changed based on the
kernel that you choose on startup (would they?), so the broken 3.0.0-15
that is installed probably doesn't have them either.

What else can be done so we can figure out what is wrong?

Cheers

2012-02-04 Thread wild_oscar
@Scott,

Thank you.

I am trying to give them a go, just a couple of questions:
- what's the difference between the 3.0.0.15 and the 3.0.0.15-generic?

I'm running Linux asus 3.0.0-14-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 21
20:34:47 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

- This means the amd64 ones won't work, right? Is it possible to compile
the i386 ones?

Cheers!

Looks good!
- The thin line issue is not present in this kernel
- It seems the screensaver dimlight issue is also not present

Thanks!

Maybe you can suggest your commit so that the repository kernels are
fixed too?

[Bug 925350] [NEW] Display problem (thin fading white vertical lines) after kernel upgrade to 3.0.0.15, no login window

2012-02-02 Thread wild_oscar
Public bug reported:

On my Asus W5G00AE, in Oneric:

- I had the issue screensaver backlight stuck off, system looks hung -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/872652 -

- Updated to kernel 3.0.0-15 using the update manager.

After the update, after the grub selection menu the screen is black, then I get
some very thin vertical lines all over the screen, which slowly fade to black,
leaving me with a black screen and no login menu.
Here's a picture taken of the moment the thin lines appear:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/23115157@N05/6798325597/

I tried the 3.0.0-17 kernel proposed in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/919350, but without
any luck: the result is the same as with 15.

I therefore have:

- kernel 14 working, but with the bug #872652 (backlight does not work after
resuming from screensaver)
- kernel 15 and 17 not booting up, yielding thin white vertical lines for a
couple of seconds, which fade to black

I have applied the patch in

However, you must force version (in synaptic) because there has been an

Would be great if the patch could be applied soon...

[Bug 881530] [NEW] Firefox doesn't open D-Link router page

2011-10-25 Thread wild_oscar
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 10.10, Firefox was updated to version 3.6.23. This version cannot
open the webpage http://192.168.10.1 , home of my DVA-G3170i/PT   D-Link router.
The webpage doesn't load - it just stands there, without any error messages.
Ctl-U displays the source code of the previous page.

F5, enter, green arrow on the address bar do not work.

- On the same computer, other browsers open the webpage (tried Opera and
Epiphany)
- Another computer on the same network running Firefox 3.6.18 opens the webpage

[Bug 665516] Re: Canon 20D camera not detected by f-spot and nautilus

2010-10-25 Thread wild_oscar
Update:
I changed the communication protocol in my camera from PTP to Normal.

The result after connecting the camera was:

l...@workstation01:~$ gvfs-mount -l

Volume(0): Canon Digital Camera
  Type: GProxyVolume (GProxyVolumeMonitorGPhoto2)
  Mount(0): Canon Digital Camera - gphoto2://[usb:002,006]/
Type: GProxyShadowMount (GProxyVolumeMonitorGPhoto2)
Mount(1): Canon Digital Camera - gphoto2://[usb:002,006]/
  Type: GDaemonMount

F-spot is also able to see the camera.

So the problem seems to be in the PTP mode.

[Bug 588375] Re: Random Wireless Disconnects

2010-07-12 Thread wild_oscar
For testing purposes, I am trying to download ubuntu's iso.

As Igor suggested, I tried manually assigning the IP address but I still
get random disconnects while downloading the file.

I attach the syslog at the time of disconnect, where you can see:

wlan0: deauthenticated from 00:1e:e5:7a:44:60 (Reason: 14)

Influeced by the original poster, I have also tried a more recent
networkmanager (the https://launchpad.net/~network-
manager/+archive/trunk PPA), but without any luck.

[Bug 511139] [NEW] [3G] Prepaid Portuguese Kanguru option not available

2010-01-22 Thread wild_oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Steps to reproduce the issue:

1) Open networkmanager
2) Add new Mobile Boradband connection
3) Choose Portugal, Kanguru

Result:
Plans Default and Fixo present.

Expected result:
Previous plans and Recarregavel

Reasoning:
Prepaid plans Recarregavel Livre and Recarregavel Light have a dynamic APN,
so choosing any of the default plans makes the connection not work.
The connection works when you delete the APN (blank APN).

Question: is a blank APN equivalent to Dynamic APN? If so, then all
there is to do is add the Plan as explained here.

[Bug 442854] Re: Daily cron fails

2009-11-10 Thread wild_oscar
To prevent this error from happening I did two things:

1) created a /var/log/couchdb directory

Seems like a trivial bug to fix...

Can NetworkManager (ie, gnome's, and its tray applet) do that job?

Aside from that, I don't know. Mind you that when I ran ifconfig lo

something similar with what is bellow (which was taken just now, after
uncommenting the lines). I'm not sure if there was something in the

[Bug 455045] Re: nfs-kernel-server doesn't start automatically at startup

2009-10-27 Thread wild_oscar
Hi Steve,

As requested:

1) syslog3, the log after the change in portmap.conf

2) This is a new Zotac Ion computer, which has a N330 processor, 2GB of
ram and one 1TB sata drive. Not the quickest of the machines, I suppose,
although it starts quickly (boot in 15-20 secs)

3) The /etc/networks/interfaces only has commented stuff. I added it
because that's how I used to define static IP addresses, but I commented
when I figured out that would make the NetworkManager applet not work as
it should. Here's the cat:

#auto lo
#iface lo inet loopback

#auto eth0
#iface eth0 inet static
#address 192.168.1.100
#netmask 255.255.255.0

Steps to recreate the issue:

1) Have postfix running and confirm it works on startup
2) Install nfs-kernel-server
3) Reboot
4) Run sudo service postfix, sudo service portmap, sudo service
nfs-kernel-server and check which services are running
5) If none of them are running, start them (postfix, portmap and
nfs-kernel-server)

6) Remove nfs-kernel-server, reboot and see postfix running.

[Bug 456238] Re: empty message-id, no date in Evolution MUA

fresh.com/unix/misc/postfix-2.6.5.tar.gz:a/postfix-2.6.5/RELEASE_NOTES):

240 [Incompat 20090330] Postfix now adds (Resent-) From:, Date:,
241 Message-ID: or To: headers only when clients match
  242 $local_header_rewrite_clients. Specify always_add_missing_headers

[Bug 456238] [NEW] empty message-id, no date in Evolution MUA

2009-10-20 Thread wild_oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

When I receive mail from a particular service (tagged.com), it is not
correctly displayed in my Evolution MUA IMAP account: the date column
displays a '?'.

The log for the received file is: http://pastie.org/661691

The same messages (whether forwarded by a Sieve recipe or by changing my
email address in the service website) are correctly displayed on the
same Evolution MUA and another IMAP account

[Bug 456238] Re: empty message-id, no date in Evolution MUA

2009-10-20 Thread wild_oscar
More info:

I changed the email in the service to another email account whose server
I control (and is older than the one I'm having issues with).

Here's the header. Notice that there is a Date: field, which is
missing from the previous header.

So something in the new version (and the reason for this bug report) is
preventing the Date: from being in the header!

[Bug 455045] [NEW] nfs-kernel-server doesn't start automatically at startup

2009-10-18 Thread wild_oscar
Public bug reported:

When I boot the system nfs-kernel-sever isn't started, even though I
have the following in my /etc/exports:

/srv/files 192.168.1.0/24(rw,async,no_subtree_check)
/srv/files/ *(rw,async,all_squash,no_subtree_check)

I have used update-rc.d to add both that service and portmap, and sysv-rc-conf
reports both services at 2,3,4 and 5.

After boot, running
service portmap start
and
service nfs-kernel-server start

runs normally and nfs will work.

[Bug 385076] Re: [9.10 regression] HDA NVIDIA HDMI no sound after alsa 1.0.20 update

2009-10-18 Thread wild_oscar
[SOLUTION]

Regarding this problem, I found the solution by running alsamixer and
toggling the option:

IEC958 1

(ie, going to that option and pressing 'm').

The problem is that I can't see a way of doing that without alsamixer,
ie with the audio desktop applet, so there's no way the general user
will make this work without losing sometime searching for the answer
online...

[Bug 385076] Re: [9.10 regression] HDA NVIDIA HDMI no sound after alsa 1.0.20 update

2009-10-09 Thread wild_oscar
Alright Luke, I did what you said.

Between steps 2 and 3 I had to kill pulseaudio (otherwise 3 would not
run pulseaudio -vvv).

The test case was:

1. Play an mp3 song
2. Switch from analog audio to HDMI output in the Profile list of the
Hardware section: song stopped playing in my headphones and didn't start
playing on my television screen

3. Switched back to analog audio and song resumed in my headphones

(btw, I don't know if it shows in the log file, but I actually switched
from analog-hdmi-analog-hdmi).

Also, I tried running pavucontrol and I actually see the volume mixer
moving when I'm in HDMI ouput and the song is playing. But no sound
comes out of the tv speakers...

[Bug 385076] Re: [9.10 regression] HDA NVIDIA HDMI no sound after alsa 1.0.20 update

2009-10-08 Thread wild_oscar
I am running Karmic beta and installed it on a Zotac Ion motherboard.

I also can't get HDMI audio to work.

Tests:

Sound Preferences - Hardware:

Profiles:

- Analog stereo output -- Works
- Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output - Doesn't work
- Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog stereo output - Doesn't work (not the
HDMI nor the analog stereo)

Shouldn't the last one be at least able to work in the analog stereo
output?

[Bug 423618] [NEW] Error printing two sided on HP OfficeJet Pro L7600 - wrong PPD file in package

2009-09-03 Thread wild_oscar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hplip

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro L7600 printer which was working correctly on
a network with Windows and Hardy machines.

I changed it to another network with Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty machines.
Configured the printer with HPLIP, printed a test page and all was well.

However, upon printing two sided, I got some errors after printing the
first side of the page. The printer status on Ubuntu was:

/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed

and Cups' log said it had an error status 9

After painful hours, I decided to use a modified (by me) version of the
PPD on my Hardy machine. And it works correctly!

So it seems there might be a problem with the ppd file of this printer
on newer versions. I attach the working PPD.
