[Bug 1090769] [NEW] keyboard shortcuts do not allow definition of custom shortcut

2012-12-15 Thread wpoet
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10. The custom keyboard shortcuts I
defined in 12.04 are gone. Ubuntu 12.10 does not allow setting of custom
shortcuts.

Open gnome-control-center keyboard, goto Shortcuts->Custom shortcuts. I
can only add new lines, but the shortcut always appear as "disabled".
Backspace does not do anything either.

** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Summary changed:

Fabio,

I switched to private because my reply to you got fully displayed on the
public bug report. It shows my complete address information which was
for you but not for the open world. Can I edit this reply? I found no
way, though,

Wolfgang

Fabio,
I've uploaded the information you requested. The status is still "incomplete".

Is there something missing?

[Bug 887720] Re: Unity crashes when a large USB disk is connected

2011-11-08 Thread wpoet
This is how the desktop looks like. Half of the icons are wrong on the
launcher pad. The top panel is greyish/blue instead of dark brown. The
icons and background on the quicklist (I am not sure about the name) on
the right top are defective. Firefox looks strange as well (like on a
very old KDE system).

[Bug 887720] [NEW] Unity crashes when a large USB disk is connected

2011-11-08 Thread wpoet
Public bug reported:

I've installed the latest version of Ubuntu 11.10 on two computers. When
I connect my Western Digital 4 Tbyte disk(s) it can work with them.
However, if I log out and log in again, or if I reboot the system with
the disk connected, Unity will be in an unusable state: the panel area
on top of the screen changes its color, most of the icons in this panel
are gone. It looks as if Unity would halt somewhere building its screen.
When I start an applications, the fonts are primitive. Many applications
do not start, or behave strangely. It is unusable. The situation can
only be resolved by disconnecting the disk, and rebooting.

[Bug 695509] Re: kernel 2.6.35-24-generic breaks many devices

2010-12-30 Thread wpoet
The USB/HAL System is defect such that some devices brake the future
use of others.

E.g.,
- the Realtek RTL8191S if present at boot prevents many other usb devices to
function.
- the Huawei E182E if present at boot prevents my mouse, WiFi Link 5100, and
Toshiba Corp. F3507g Mobile Broadband Module to function.

If booting into the older kernel 2.6.35-23 (otherwise identical
installation), everything works.

[Bug 644898] Re: required kernel toshiba support not enabled

2010-12-28 Thread wpoet
Yes, Thomas, I fully agree. Does anyone have an idea where else to
complain. This has been going on for half a year. It is painful enough
if something does not work. But is a working solution is dropped, I
really lack any understanding. No wonder, my wife thinks I am stupid to
use Linux. In Windows everything's so easy, at least as far as hardware
support is concerned.

[Bug 568541] Re: rosegarden segfaults when opening or saving a project

2010-06-29 Thread wpoet
I have Ubuntu 10.04 and it will crash on saving also with the -style
oxygen. -style gtk crashes, -style qt crashes also. It does not matter
whether the "thorn" is enabled or not. The only way to save my work is
to use "rosegarden" (without a style) and have the "thorn" enabled. With
this syle rosegarden is very difficult to use, because the GUI is very
difficult to read.

Please could you fix this.

[Bug 407344] Re: pdf printing on karmic fails: pdftopdf crashed on signal 11

2010-04-08 Thread wpoet
I am reporting similar persisting printing problems. I cannot print
larger pdf files, as well most images. I have the exact installation as
posted by Thomas Winterer.

Here is a fragment of the error_log file:

The line at the end "please consult the error_log file for details" seems a bit
cynical, since I am looking at the error_log file, and this is all the
information there is.

The problem is VERY ANNOYING.

I have installed cups 1.4.3 but there is not the slightest bit of a
change.

[Bug 308390] Re: Video output colors wrong

2009-12-08 Thread wpoet
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 424864 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/424864

After the latest update (2009/12/08) the bug is still present. On my
system (Ubuntu 9.10, Linux wp-tecra-s10 2.6.31-16-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP
Thu Dec 3 22:07:16 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux) colors are ok after boot,
but when the system runs for a while, colors go berserk in the way
described above. I found no apparent reason, yet.

But Ar's workaround is doing the job.

[Bug 18715] Re: Font sizes of KDE apps wrong when used in GNOME

2008-12-06 Thread wpoet

Where can I specifiy this dpi setting for KDE? The exact same behavior
is now happening in Ubuntu 8.10. When I start a KDE-application
(soffice, gwenview, kontact, korganzers, what so ever), the applications
fonts are too big. When I open System->Appearance and close it (even
without any changes made), and then start the KDE application, it starts
with the right font size.

This bug seems to have reappeared in Ubuntu 8.10.
