[Bug 1582858] Re: kernel 4.4.0-22-generic in 16.04 sees no disks on HP Proliant DL165 G7 if IOMMU is enabled

2016-06-07 Thread xormar
@penalvch
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1582858/comments/19

Which of the upstream kernels at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D should I test to find the last bad/first good one?
There is no v4.4.N-xenial kernel, so I don't really know where to start
and what to test. There are almost 40 kernels between v4.4-wily and
v4.6-yakkety ...

Then there's the problem that the server is sitting in a data center and
I have to be on site to en-/disable the iommu on each boot.

This also makes the bisecting very tedious, so I have no idea when I
will find the time to do it.

One more question: To setup the build environment, the requird packages
are all installed by apt-get build-dep linux-image-$(uname -r), or do I
need anything else?

I've tested with kernel 4.6.0 from linux-
image-4.6.0-040600-generic_4.6.0-040600.201605151930_amd64.deb.

The error does not appear with this kernel. Attaching dmesg with IOMMU
en-/disabled and adding tag.

** Description changed:

  On a HP Proliant DL165 G7 I upgraded from 14.04.3 LTS to 16.04 LTS (I
  know, not supported).

After reboot, the new kernel was loaded by GRUB, but failed to find the
disks installed in the system (setup working for almost 2 years,
standard HP setup with the SATA controller in AHCI mode and AHCI enabled
during BIOS). It then dropped to a shell in initramfs, after hundreds
  (thousands?) of identical errors:

  [...] AMD-Vi: Event Logged [IO_PAGE_FAULT] device=xxx adress=yyy
  flags=0x...

  and the final error messages:

ata3: softreset failed (1st FIS failed)
ata4: softreset failed (1st FIS failed)
ata3: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps
ata3: softreset failed (1st FIS failed)
ata4: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps
ata4: softreset failed (1st FIS failed)
  ata3: reset failed, giving up
  ata4: reset failed, giving up

The system disks are on ata1 and ata2, though.

I tried booting the system from different other 16.04 boot media
(ubuntu-16.04-server-amd64.iso, ubuntu-16.04-desktop-amd64.iso) into a rescue
system. I also got the
[...] AMD-Vi: Event Logged ... messages. When the rescue shell was running,
the system disks were also not detected, the installer I started as an
experiment only offered the (USB disk) boot medium itself as installation
target. The desktop installer and kernel then crashed with error messages about
squashfs (sorry, didn't record those).

Without any change, the same system boots without issues from a 14.04
boot image, all disks present. Also, the 16.04 system boots fine if the
old 3.13.0-86 kernel is selected in the GRUB menu.

After some fiddling around, I turned off the IOMMU in the server's BIOS
(under PCiExpress) - and all went back to normal, without any change on
the installed system. Kernel 4.4.0-22-generic now boots just fine from
  the LVM-Root.

- So this is WORKSFORME now, but maybe somebody should look into it. I do
- believe that Proliants are quite common out there. If needed, I'll
- provide more info if possible - but currently I wouldn't know what.

[Bug 1582858] [NEW] kernel 4.4.0-22-generic in 16.04 sees no disks on HP Proliant DL165 G7 if IOMMU is enabled

2016-05-17 Thread xormar
Public bug reported:

On a HP Proliant DL165 G7 I upgraded from 14.04.3 LTS to 16.04 LTS (I

ata3: softreset failed (1st FIS failed)
ata4: limiting SATA link speed to 1.5 Gbps
ata4: softreset failed (1st FIS failed)
ata3: reset failed, giving up
ata4: reset failed, giving up

The system disks are on ata1 and ata2, though.

I tried booting the system from different other 16.04 boot media
(ubuntu-16.04-server-amd64.iso, ubuntu-16.04-desktop-amd64.iso) into a rescue
system. I also got the

[Bug 1085526]

2015-12-05 Thread xormar
I think the correct statement to issue in this case would be that a part
("revision") of the PDF has been signed and to show the validation
result for that revision, ideally giving the user a chance to view only
the signed part.

This might even be indispensable when there are multiple signatures
applied to the document.

[Bug 740506]

2014-10-31 Thread xormar
Hi all

Funding is all very well, and +1 for the initiative!

But first we'll need to find developers who are willing to take up the
task.

Is there anyone interested in implementing this (immensely important,
believe me!) feature? Can we spur his or her interest with money?

Or can we say that allowing this functionality to exist in one closed-
source vendor's application alone is tantamount to having your passports
checked at the border by a representative of a commercial enterprise,
who does not tell you by what criteria it checks the document, bit still
is entitled to deny you admission?

We did a fundraiser (http://wilhelmtux.ch/?MID=11&PID=96) recently for
finishing the implementation of the *signing* part in LibreOffice, which
is also in C++ and uses Mozilla NSS. So maybe some of the code can be
reused. Most of the original code should be available here:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=9c8dc01d3a40ec905c9d816c733ceb5d621e0426

Search by author should also work:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?qt=author&q=eraslan

As this is still work in progress, please follow
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83940 for updates.

[Bug 1085526]

2014-10-31 Thread xormar
Hi all

Funding is all very well, and +1 for the initiative!

But first we'll need to find developers who are willing to take up the
task.

Is there anyone interested in implementing this (immensely important,
believe me!) feature? Can we spur his or her interest with money?

Or can we say that allowing this functionality to exist in one closed-
source vendor's application alone is tantamount to having your passports
checked at the border by a representative of a commercial enterprise,
who does not tell you by what criteria it checks the document, bit still
is entitled to deny you admission?

We did a fundraiser (http://wilhelmtux.ch/?MID=11&PID=96) recently for
finishing the implementation of the *signing* part in LibreOffice, which
is also in C++ and uses Mozilla NSS. So maybe some of the code can be
reused. Most of the original code should be available here:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=9c8dc01d3a40ec905c9d816c733ceb5d621e0426

Search by author should also work:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/?qt=author&q=eraslan

As this is still work in progress, please follow
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83940 for updates.

[Bug 197077] Re: 6.06 LTS: CVE-2007-6698, CVE-2008-0658

2008-03-02 Thread xormar
I didn't find any reference to CVE-2007-6698 in gutsy.
Is this also going into dapper LTS?

[Bug 197077] [NEW] 6.06 LTS: CVE-2007-6698, CVE-2008-0658

2008-02-29 Thread xormar
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

>From all I've read, CVE-2007-6698, CVE-2008-0658 have not yet been
adressed in dapper 6.06 LTS or elsewhere in ubuntu (package's changelog
notes nothing).

CVE-2007-6698:
The BDB backend for slapd in OpenLDAP before 2.3.36 allows remote authenticated
users to cause a denial of service (crash) via a potentially-successful modify
operation with the NOOP control set to critical, possibly due to a double free
vulnerability.

CVE-2008-0658:
slapd/back-bdb/modrdn.c in the BDB backend for slapd in OpenLDAP 2.3.39 allows
remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via a
modrdn operation with a NOOP (LDAP_X_NO_OPERATION) control, a related issue to
CVE-2007-6698.

** Affects: openldap2.2 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
