[Bug 1653912] Re: Broken dependency for docker.io package on Yakkety and Debian

Buster versions are not worked out yet, so this bug can be a placeholder
for when Buster is released to prod. Encountered this on a testing
virtual machine.

[Bug 1617535] Re: geoip.ubuntu.com does not utilize HTTPS

2017-09-26 Thread xtsbdu3reyrbrmroezob
@jim no the ubuntu security team also did not respond regarding this
issue. unfortunately, it is actually being abused by the great firewall
of china to spy on ubuntu users within the border of china. from what we
can tell, the ubuntu security team does not take nation state level
issues very seriously, which is unfortunate, since google is one of the
largest commercial users of ubuntu distro and they are the main target
of nation states.

[Bug 1668321] Re: Vulnerability allows read/write/exec access on Ubuntu 16.04 Screenlock as lightdm user

2017-03-07 Thread xtsbdu3reyrbrmroezob
Nice find. There is another lock screen bypass that still exists if you
hold right click option down before the screensaver activates. I don't
believe that has even been fully and properly patched and has existed
for years. And now the accessibility features seem like ripe targets for
further review too. Makes you wonder just how many other local bypass
issues still exist (or have been planted by espionage agencies).

[Bug 1634346] Re: https://entropy.ubuntu.com lacks Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) and has certificate chain issues

2017-02-14 Thread xtsbdu3reyrbrmroezob
Thanks for the informative links! This clears up a lot of the
misconceptions. Believe that this service was spotted on the desktop
version as well so it may be used not just in could services, hence the
concern. But I think a lot of this is cleared up. Yes, the PFS would be
the only issue if curl is really fully validating the cert chain. will
test that soon. PFA could protect against a web server key compromise
and potentially also if TLS session tickets are leaked.

[Bug 1634346] Re: https://entropy.ubuntu.com lacks Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) and has certificate chain issues

2017-01-10 Thread xtsbdu3reyrbrmroezob
you are leaking a LOT of data in the user agent string. is that really
necessary? passive CA tampering or even statistical CA tampering (eg. 1%
chance forged at 3AM local time) could be used to fingerprint clients
using that user agent string. it is FAR TOO VERBOSE.

but more importantly, there is no HPKP configured, which allows an
adversary to taint the entropy pool. remember that nation states,
including the Great Firewall of China, can easily intermediate the HTTPS
CA certificate and forge a malicious entropy reply to the client. This
could have disastrous consequences for clients.

2016-10-29 Thread xtsbdu3reyrbrmroezob
the driver appears to be corrupting the printer in some way. brother has
the same problem even in their windows drivers, at least in earlier
versions. the only "fix" is to break up every print job into 1-page
documents, send 1 page, let it print, reboot the printer, delete the
printer, re-add the printer, send the next page, etc... until you finish
printing. this is really poorly designed. may only affect the USB
printing. brother says "direct printing" works just fine. i take that to
mean networked printing over port 9100 / jetdirect works fine. its the
USB printing thats the issue
