[Bug 1782347] Re: [radeon] GDM3 fails to load without nomodeset
Bug #1787698 was reported to be useless, possibly because the machine was not up-to-date, which isn't the case because mine was; so I can't be more helpful here... Based on my comment #6, could this be related to #1782347 in any way, as this only happens when graphics is involved? [Bug 1781889] [NEW] System freezes on restart or shutdown
Public bug reported: Using default GRUB parameters ("quiet splash" or even "noquiet"), I'm unable to reboot or shutdown: the Plymouth circle starts spinning, then it stops and the system is frozen (altgr+sysrq won't work either). If I use "acpi=off", I can reboot but obviously the system will not shutdown (although I can get to a point where it is safe to hold the power button for 3 seconds). I also tried "acpi=noirq", "acpi=noapic", "acpi=nolapic", "pci=noacpi" with no success. Ubuntu 12.04 worked well, so this is a regression. @tinga: What exactly didn't work for you? For me, replacing synaptics with libinput (as in #32) did the trick. Then I also had to write a little bash script to reduce the speed: #!/bin/sh xinput -set-prop 11 281 -0.75 exit 0 or you could set this in 90-libinput.conf, as in #38 and #39. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574667 Title: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1574667/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks Juan, your fix seems to work actually! I confirm the pointer speed is very high, but a "xinput -set-prop 11 281 -0.5" command solved the issue (281 stands for "libinput Accel Speed" and 11 is the proper device i.e. "DLLC6B2:00 06CB:75BF Touchpad"). [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner
Christopher, thanks for your time. Please disregard comment #8, as I was just making a comparison between two different machines - but probably that only added confusion. Now, about the machine I reported the bug on: * 12.04.0, 12.04.1, 12.04.2, 12.04.4: X does not start after boot, not even by 'startx' (I attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log); * 12.04.3 halts right after boot with a kernel panic ("Kernel panic - not syncing - Attempted to kill init!"). So the first distribution running X is effectively 12.04.5, with the kernel reported above. [Bug 285908] Re: extended ascii characters not displayed on cold boots
Great news! There's a workaround which actually works, not only under X but under console as well! Full credits and thanks go to Vojtech Pavlik for a) taking time to analyze my bug report and my output, b) describing the bug and finding where the problem lies, c) suggesting me the workaround. If you look at the Linux Bugzilla bug report (http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12230), the explanation points to a double-side bug: 1) the keyboard is sometimes initialized in raw mode instead of translated mode; 2) in raw mode, the AltGr key is mistakenly mapped to scancode 0x91 (hex) instead of 91 (dec). Currently, there is no solutions for #1 (some modifications to the i8042 driver's initialization parameters will probably be done in the future). BUT: you can circumvent #2 by typing: (sudo) setkeycodes 91 100 for reassigning the right keycode to the wrongly scancode-mapped AltGr key. This solutions seems fully functional to me. Vojtech tells me (I still haven't tried) that this command should not hurt even on right boots, since the 0x91 scancode is unused. [Bug 285908] Re: extended ascii characters not displayed on cold boots
Vojtech Pavlik, the maintainer for the AT keyboard Linux driver, told me that a way to force the keyboard in raw mode (which is what happens on buggy boots) is to boot with i8042.direct=1. Unfortunately, there is not the opposite option, i.e.: you cannot force the keyboard in translated mode (it should be its natural state). Additional details on the Linux bug report...
