[Bug 333132] [NEW] mkvtoolnix does not appear installed through synaptic

2009-02-22 Thread zeddock
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mkvtoolnix

I tried to install mkvtoolnix and the gui packages from the directions on the
home site. (version 2.5.1)
After the install is completed there is only one menu entry under Applications
/ Sound & Video / MKV files creator. If clicked nothing seems to happen at all.

Going to a terminal and giving:
/usr/bin/mkvextract
I get:
Error: The locale could not be set properly. Check the LANG, LC_ALL and
LC_MESSAGES environment variables.

I will also note that during the install, even though I imported the GPG
sig, I was told the installs were UNATHENTICATED.

I only wanted this package to extract divx from an MKV video so I could
watch on my stand-alone DVD player. Any other option to make this work?

Thanx,
zeddock
PS. Ubuntu 8.10

[Bug 301791] [NEW] flash player not fully working on Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit Firefox 3

2008-11-24 Thread zeddock
Public bug reported:

Flash player seems to be properly installed and working but when I go to
CBS.com (as an example that is repeatable...) and try to watch an
episode of "The Unit", the player area has a spinning loading animation
that never ends.

How can I get more information on what is or is not happening?

I have tried a completely new OS install, and I notice that on another
computer which is 8.10 32bit, there is not a problem.

Had to do a few other things but it does work now. Thanx Gary...
I had to remove all of the "npwrapper.libflashplayer.so" links and files. Then
put the new file in those directories...

I also had to put it here:
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

and I think maybe a few other places that I cannot remember.

Close and open firefox.

In all sincerity, it seems like others reporting this same problem will help
to get it fixed. Even if it is only through enlarging the testing pool.
I do have frustration with the bug but my desire is to get it moving in a
positive direction for solution. Up to now it seems like it has had several
mis-steps through incomplete descriptions of what is happening.

So please explain why these comments are not useful tools?

2007-10-24 Thread zeddock
And now, based on many posts around the September 25th timeframe, it
appears that this may not entirely be an nVidia problem. Is that right?
I mean, on the 25th I had to open a BUNCH of windows before they turned
black. Now, with 7.10 release, the black window problems are as bad as
they have ever been.

Anyone know how I can go back to whatever was working on the 25th?

Thanx!

Is there a GUI way to tell which one I am using?
Restricted Driver manager does not show which one it is.

[Bug 160746] Docked laptop loses parallel port (Gusty - Not a hardware failure)

2007-11-07 Thread zeddock
Public bug reported:

Dell D800 laptop.
Clean CD Gusty 7.10 release installed
***Unsure if this has been problem in past as only tested parallel port with
this printer under XP Pro OS. Did not try it under Feisty, either.
Checked BIOS to find current setting is for "Normal". Have tried different
settings like ECP, etc. No change.

While undocked a parallel printer can be configured and used as expected.
Once docked the port does not seem to exist.

No problem!
This is the way it is supposed to work. I got dinged pretty hard several

thought "Triaged" was a way to reduce severity/focus. Turns out "Triaged"
is better than "Confirmed", or so I have been told.

Re: [Bug 32853] Re: installing NVIDIA non-free binary package requires manual configuration

2007-09-12 Thread zeddock
So sorry!
I have two ONGOING problems in the linux/Ubuntu world... The nVidia Driver
for the 4200 and the bcm43xx firmware for the integrated wireless module. I
was confusing the two, driver versus firmware. Everything else is the same.

For instance,
R-M does not handle the nVidia driver (1.936??) correctly. So my statement
is still valid in that R-M would mitigate the real problem if it worked to
properly install the correct driver and configure xorg.conf to use it. But
it doesn't, so there is no mitigation through R-M.

Again, sorry for the mixup in my terms.

[Bug 135000] Re: unresponsive at broadcom firmware installation

2007-09-13 Thread zeddock
Since it began here and others will read here... I want to correct the
simple instructions to deal with this problem.

Basilio was kind enough to post this:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cd /tmp
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ sudo rmmod bcm43xx
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ wget -c
http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ sudo bcm43xx-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/`uname -r`/
wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ sudo modprobe bcm43xx

I added a sudo to the last line.

No reboot needed. Go check your icon and find that wireless networks now show
up.
I am using a Dell Latitude D800 with a bcm4309 in it.

Thanx Basilio. Hopefully this little piece of info will help others to
squash this BUG.

[Bug 139325] Re: memory check for nvidia users

2007-09-13 Thread zeddock
What will happen if there is not enough? I ask because as a GeForce4
4200 Go Ti 8AGP user on a laptop I am very interested in the cube
desktop effect. I can only have it with 3d enabled, but after 5-6
windows the Black starts.

Thanx for your help on this issue, BTW. It has been a lingering issue
since Feisty betas.

Re: [Bug 139325] Re: memory check for nvidia users

2007-09-13 Thread zeddock
What a shame. I know this is mainly a nVidia issue, but I had feisty up and
working nicely with a cube. I did get the black screens from time to time.
How does windows do all their stuff on my machine when I can't under Ubuntu?

Thanx for all of the hard work.

[Bug 139544] Restricted Manager pushes wrong driver

2007-09-13 Thread zeddock
Public bug reported:

Fresh load of Gusty
System / Prefs / Appearances
Select Desktop Effects TAB
Click Extra Effects

R-M comes up and tries to install nvidia - NEW driver.
My card, a GeForce4 Go Ti AGP 8x, in a Dell Latitude D800 should not use the
NEW version of the driver. Yet, that is what is loaded!

Upon reboot X will not start back up without a manual edit to xorg.conf;
changing nvidia back to nv.
