Re: [Bug 657449] Re: Maximised window title should be shown in the panel
Thanks! Since there is no public spec for Unity (AFAIK) I'm stabbing in the dark here. I guess that you are going to left-align the window title (is the name of the app going to be between the window controls and the menu, similar to OSX?). Will the menu only show when you mouse over the panel or will it fade in/out as a function of pointer proximity? I'm also confused about the drag to unmaximize since once you are over the panel you have the menu so what exactly would one drag? Any merit in my other suggestion for keyboard shortcuts overlay ala MS Office 2007/2010? Should I open another bug/feature-suggestion for it? [Bug 657449] Re: Maximised window title should be shown in the panel
I have a suggestion that might help improve how this is presented. A little ASCII diagram of the panel when the window is maximized: CoF | X _ + File Edit Vie | Window Title | Indicators CoF | - circle of friends button with the separator X _ + - window controls File Edit Vie | - applications menu. Note the " Vie | " part. It's the menu item named View but it was cut with the | which isn't a separator here (at least not like the one right of CoF). It is a fade effect (similar to the one that is/was above the Trash icon when you have lots of icons in the launcher) that nicely cuts the rest of the menu after which the Window Title follows. Window Title - the windows title but in bold as is now. | Indicators - separator like the one right of CoF (so a vertical line) followed by the indicators My suggestion would improve discoverability of the menus while retaining plenty of the Window Title. This would help with people wondering where the menus went. This could tie into accessibility via keyboard shortcuts. I liked the keyboard shortcuts on the launcher in Unity 10.10/2.x and I think that this should be expanded on the entire launcher + panel interface. Similar how Office 2007+ displays them (http://officeimg.vo.msecnd.net/en-us/files/029/222/ZA010167826.gif). When the user presses the Windows (or Alt) key they get an overlay that has every item mapped to a key. So pressing [0-9] keys interacts with the launcher. Pressing F (or what ever is assigned to it by the app) selects the File menu item etc. When the user presses Win/Alt key another thing should happen. The fade effect should consume the Window Title and show the entire menu options with the corresponding keyboard shortcuts. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/657449 Title: Maximised window title should be shown in the panel -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 537414] Re: Software item screen looks oddly narrow in wide window
I understand it is by design. But both mpt and I think it looks weird. It looks bland and uninteresting because it is so empty. For reference look at how iTunes 7 does it: http://www.winsupersite.com/images/reviews/itunes7_05.jpg I would say it looks rather nice considering the similarities between the two apps. I think that implementing the behavior that I described above would be more appealing then the current hard coded position of the screenshot. This is a wishlist bug IMO. But it would make USC look better for those that will use Lucid for the next 3 years. On Wed, Mar 17, 2010 at 1:15 PM, Michael Forrest wrote: > This layout is by design. [Bug 537414] Re: Software item screen looks oddly narrow in wide window
I like gridx4 and x2. If the App view has the horizontal space it should add extra screenshots to the right of the text. If the pane starts to lose horizontal space (the user resizes the window or expands the sidebar) it should start losing the right most screenshots before the horizontal bar shows. It would continue to do so until we end up with a view that is exactly the same as now but left aligned and with a smaller margin between text and side pane divider. If there is only one screenshot then it can copy the 1screenshot.png attached above. What do you think? If you are favorable to this solution you (or I) can open separate bug reports for steps that need to be done for this to happen. -- Software item screen looks oddly narrow in wide window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537414 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 538311] [NEW] App view is inefficiently using space for description and screenshots
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: software-center Lucid USC 1.1.17 The current App view could use much improvement. I'm thinking: Align it to the left with the same margin as is now on top. Move the screenshots to how they were but make them bigger. It would be nice to have 2-3 screenshots and a link to the gallery for more. The gallery would simply be another level in the breadcrumb view (Get Software-->Internet-->Firefox-->Screenshots) with screenshots laid out in a grid. I'm thinking that the text/screenshots ratio should be 50/50 in the default size but if you maximize USC it should stop the text from expanding over X number of pixels (in width), the rest should be taken by a larger thumbnail(s). I think my suggestion is justified since the majority of monitors today are widescreen so I don't understand why are you expanding the view horizontally. [Bug 402767] Re: multisearch add on blocks the functionality of firefox location bar
I would like to make a suggestion: If you install extensions or other data gathering applications in the testing cycle do the following: Inform the user to the best of you abilities about your intentions. In the case of Multisearch a link on the search page leading to an explanation would be GREAT! If it's some other kind of desktop software pop-up a big windows with an explanation (or at least a short description and a link to the full explanation). The main point is: INFORM us! Tell us what kind of data you are collecting (I suggest an anonymous policy by default, more invasive data gathering should ONLY be opt-in not opt-out). Understand that I'm a volunteer here. And so are the rest of girls and guys that test the next Ubuntu version. I'm positive that a lot of people would LOVE to help you get useful data that could improve Ubuntu (or make Canonical some money for even more Ubuntu goodness).
