Is your rpool mirrored?

On a test enviroment if I detach one of the drives, I can run update-
grub. Reattaching the drive breaks update-grub.

I'm currently stuck in 19.04 because of this bug.

[Bug 1591274] Re: cups-browsed hangs on shutdown

2016-06-26 Thread zoolook
Hi. I did:

   sudo systemctl stop cups-browsed.service

and the command did not hang. Shutting down the machine after running
the above command worked flawlessly.

This machine is notebook. I connect to the network almost exclusively
using WiFi.

Can I help debug this?

Regards,
Norberto

[Bug 1561719] [NEW] xenial server install keyboard layout broken

2016-03-24 Thread zoolook
Public bug reported:

Xenial server install doesn't allow to have US English keyboard layout
when location is Argentina.

I live in Argentina but I usually configure my servers install with the
following options:

Language: English
Country: other
Location: South America, Argentina
Locales: United States
Keyboard: English (United States)

This allows me to configure my servers with English US layout (faster
and better than Spanish layouts, at least for administration and coding)
and at the same time have the correct time zone (Buenos Aires,
Argentina).

In Xenial I can do all except for keyboard layout where the only layout
in English (Cameroon).

I have to install with Spanish layout and change it to English after the
installation is complete. No big deal actually, but I prefer the
previous behavior.

Thanks.

** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1449005] Re: trim does not work with Samsung 840 EVO after firmware update (EXT0DB6Q)

2015-12-13 Thread zoolook
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1338706 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1338706

Hello,

I have a Samsung 850 EVO (500GB) and yesterday my laptop was
unresponsive. I had to do a hard power off.

After a few minutes of usage, another crash. This time I was able to
switch to the console and I took a picture (see attach, I'm sorry for
the quality).

I moved the disk to my desktop computer to make a backup, but at 30% the
disk died. After a reboot, I was able to read the disk again. I could
backup almost everything. The problem seems to be some large torrent
(~100GB) that I was downloading.

I ran fstrim manually two or three times the past weeks, but I had no
problem doing so.

Is the disk damaged/dying, or is just a kernel issue?

Thanks!

Firmware is EMT01B6Q.

Kernel: 4.2.0-19-generic

Ubuntu 15.10

[Bug 1446906] Re: lxc container with postfix, permission denied on mailq

2015-04-21 Thread zoolook
Hi Brad. Totally unrelated to this bug but I find really weird (for not
saying abussive) that Cannical needs to collect all these files, some of
them with apparent serial numbers and show this information in a public
system. It would be nice if apport-collect were changed/anhanced with:

1 - filter serial numbers (hard I know)
2 - let it me choose what I want to upload

Now, going back to the bug. Please note that it was filled against a
package named "linux". I didn't want this. I chose "I don't know" but
launchpad rejected the bug report three times.

Thanks

2015-04-21 Thread zoolook
Public bug reported:

Hello,

on three Vivid host, all of them up-to-date, I have the problem
described here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/utopic/+source/linux/+bug/1390223

That bug report shows the problem was fixed, but it is not (at least on
current Vivid)

Reproducible with:

$ sudo lxc-create -n test -t ubuntu
$ sudo lxc-start -n test

(inside container)

$ sudo apt-get install postfix
$ mailq

Fixed for me.

zoolook@venkman:~$ sudo update-rc.d networking remove
zoolook@venkman:~$ sudo update-rc.d networking defaults
zoolook@venkman:~$ ls /etc/rcS.d/ | grep net

[Bug 1430675] Re: fails to set up a bridged network interface

2015-03-30 Thread zoolook
Mine is an old install too.

In my case, I have 3 nics. Nothing in interfaces.d/

br0 is my lan
br1 wan (behind router)
br2 is not connected, and no, I don't want an ip address there unless is really
necessary .

Here is my interfaces:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet manual

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet manual

auto eth2
iface eth2 inet manual

auto br0
iface br0 inet static
address 10.11.101.200/24
bridge_ports eth0
bridge_stp off
bridge_fd 3
bridge_hello 2
up route add -net 10.99.97.0/24 gw 10.11.101.254

dns-nameservers 10.11.101.254 10.0.0.1
dns-search lxc bensa.ar flacso.org.ar lan

auto br1
iface br1 inet dhcp
bridge_ports eth1
bridge_stp off
bridge_fd 3
bridge_hello 2

auto br2
iface br2 inet manual
bridge_ports eth2
bridge_stp off
bridge_fd 3
bridge_hello 2

BTW, at work I have another vivid host (only one interface) where the bridge
goes up as it should:

# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet manual

auto br0
iface br0 inet static
address 192.168.0.11
netmask 255.255.252.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
bridge_ports eth0
dns-nameservers 192.168.0.1 192.168.0.254
dns-search flacso.org.ar

For now, at home, I've made a workaround for this problem with this snipped in
rc.local:

ip link show dev br0 || ifup br0
ip link show dev br1 || ifup br1
ip link show dev br2 || ifup br2

[Bug 1068137] [NEW] grub2: Some modules may be missing from core image..

2012-10-18 Thread zoolook
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to quantal, grub-install says:

Path `/boot/grub' is not readable by GRUB on boot. Installation is
impossible. Aborting.

My setup is 2x1TB raid1 disks. LVM on raid. /boot in LVM. This
configuration was working before quantal. Currently I'm rebuilding my
raid 'cos it was mdraid10 on GPT, and I tought GPT was making grub-
install fail, but now it is mdraid1 on MBR and the problem persists.
Maybe it is md or lvm problem (from the message "missing modules from
core image").

[Bug 989354] Re: cgroup-lite and separated /usr

2012-07-02 Thread zoolook
Hello Serge,

[quote]
start on mounted MOUNTPOINT=/sys and mounted MOUNTPOINT=/proc
[/quote]

A few months ago, I got a similar problem at work. I needed to make sure
two filesystems were mounted, and I came to a solution like the one
you're suggesting. And nope. It didn't work. cgroup-lite is in an
endless loop right now :-)

So I tried to put some echoes on the job. And the problem is (are
actually) tail and awk

awk is installed in /usr/bin/awk (which is a symlink to
/etc/alternatives/akw, which is a symlink to /usr/bin/mawk). The same
for tail.

The for loop (for c in `tail -n +2 /proc/cgroups | awk) at the end
of /bin/cgroup-mount is never executed.

I did a simple "cp /usr/bin/awk /bin/" and "cp /usr/bin/tail /bin/" and
got cgroup-lite working.

Now I'm wondering two things:

1) how did you get this to work with a separated /usr

2) what others things are broken when /usr is on a separated partition.

Regards,
Norberto

[Bug 989354] Re: cgroup-lite and separated /usr

2012-06-29 Thread zoolook
Hello Serge,

don't worry.

Does it make any difference to test on a vm (virtualbox on mac os x)?

Also, if I stop/start cgroup-lite, lxc guest runs

Fresh boot:

$ sudo lxc-start -n test
[sudo] password for zoolook:
lxc-start: failed to spawn 'test'

$ sudo service cgroup-lite stop
cgroup-lite stop/waiting

$ sudo service cgroup-lite start
cgroup-lite start/running

$ cat /proc/mounts |grep cgroup
cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup tmpfs rw,relatime,mode=755 0 0
cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/cpuset cgroup rw,relatime,cpuset,clone_children 0 0
cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu cgroup rw,relatime,cpu,clone_children 0 0
cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/cpuacct cgroup rw,relatime,cpuacct,clone_children 0 0
cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/memory cgroup rw,relatime,memory,clone_children 0 0
cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/devices cgroup rw,relatime,devices,clone_children 0 0
cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/freezer cgroup rw,relatime,freezer,clone_children 0 0
cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/blkio cgroup rw,relatime,blkio,clone_children 0 0
cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/perf_event cgroup rw,relatime,perf_event,clone_children 0 0

$ mount|grep cgroup
cgroup on /sys/fs/cgroup type tmpfs (rw,uid=0,gid=0,mode=0755)

(why doesn't show all of them?)

$ sudo lxc-start -n test
(now it doesn't complain, and the container runs)

I hope this helps

Regards,
Norberto

I fixed this one removing libcanberra-gtk-module. I'm using Kubuntu
11.10 and so I don't use many GTK apps, but Firefox and Google Chrome
are running now.

[Bug 607636] Re: chardev: opening backend "pty" failed

2010-12-10 Thread zoolook
Hello,

I had qemu-kvm working flawless and then I installed lxc.

I can reproduce this bug *always* in maverick doing this:

start lxc domain
start kvm guest

$ virsh start kvm-windsurf
chardev: opening backend "pty" failed

> Does it work if you remount the directory?

$ sudo mount -o remount /dev/pts
$ virsh start kvm-windsurf
Se ha iniciado el dominio kvm-windsurf

(more or less: domain kvm-windsurf started)

So yes. It's a workaround for now.

Thanks!

[Bug 609651] Re: compile OpenLDAP with OpenSSL

2010-07-25 Thread zoolook
Rationale: I cannot use certs that were working with openldap from
hardy. Is there a tool to convert those certs to gnutls?

Debian patches: remember 2008? I hope they do a better work this time.

Licensing: at least Apache, Cyrus IMAPd, and Postfix, are compiled
against OpenSSL. Why cannot OpenLDAP?

[Bug 551432] [NEW] virt-manager create disk image hangs for ever

2010-03-29 Thread zoolook
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virt-manager

Ubuntu Lucid beta1 (updated yersterday 3-29-2010)

When using virt-manager to create a new guest vm, trying to create a
disk storage, freezes virt-manager. There's no message on dmesg.
/var/log/syslog shows:

Mar 30 02:05:07 venkman libvirtd: 02:05:07.818: error :
storageVolumeLookupByName:1158 : Storage volume not found: no storage
vol with matching name 'kvm-freebsd8'

But I guess it's just a informational message.

Step to reproduce:

1. start virt-manager
2. create a new virtual machine
3. on storage, choose: "select manager or other existing storage" and click
"browse"
4. click "new volume"

Note that the same freeze/hang occurs if using lvm storage.

[Bug 452712] Re: qemu-kvm 0.11.0-0ubuntu5, virtualized proxy, useless

2009-10-16 Thread zoolook
This seems to be the problem: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=525588

I changed the nics model from virtio to rtl8139, and now it works like
it used to.

[Bug 452712] Re: qemu-kvm 0.11.0-0ubuntu5, virtualized proxy, useless

2009-10-16 Thread zoolook
It seems that -from my logs (/var/log/aptitude* and /var/log/apt/term*)-
I was actually running kvm 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu12.3 and qemu wasn't

This is crazy, I thought this box was up-to-date (the packages I describe in
the other post are from a box I have at work.)

And BTW. It seems ip packets go thru the virtualized proxy, but they're mangled
or dropped. If you can show me how to correctly capture the necessary info with
tcpdump or another tool, I'll post a dump.

[Bug 452712] Re: qemu-kvm 0.11.0-0ubuntu5, virtualized proxy, useless

2009-10-16 Thread zoolook
Hello Dustin,

It was working with:

linux-image-2.6.31-14-generic 2.6.31-14.46
kvm 1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu16
qemu 0.10.6-1ubuntu1

Doesn't work with:

linux-image-2.6.31-14-generic 2.6.31-14.47
qemu-kvm 0.11.0-0ubuntu5

Is there any way to reinstall those packages? (unfortunately, I did aptitude
clean...)

Thanks,
Norberto

[Bug 432222] Re: boot fails, mountall likely culprit

2009-09-20 Thread zoolook
Hello,

my box booted once in ten tries (amd64). It didn't show garbled paths,
but it didn't like my xfs partitions. Sometimes it was /home, sometimes
/var.

Your patch worked in the first try (I'll update tomorrow if it works in
every boot) but being able to reboot is a step in the right direction.

I still get var mounted on /dev/.var in mount/df (mtab has wrong info)
but that's for sure another bug.

BTW: __mountall needs to be static because of the *_hook_walk() funtions inside
*_hook()
Maybe it is a gcc 4.4.1 issue because it doesn't make sense to me the need for
static char __mountall[].

[Bug 432620] Re: unknown filesystem type 'xfs'

2009-09-20 Thread zoolook
Yes sbodo, changing RAMRUN and RAMLOCK doesn't always help. My box
didn't want to boot today. It took me like 10 reboots. (BTW, grub2 also
doesn't help at all. Why is it so sllloowww?)

Is there a way to disable event-driven services and go back to serial
(one after another) service startup?

[Bug 432248] Re: mountall is an opaque, impossible to debug binary blob instead of a debuggable set of shell scripts

2009-09-19 Thread zoolook
Hello. Can you post your shell script? mountall sucks in a way I can't
stand it anymore:

* My box doesn't boot anymore

* When it does "mount" says var is mounted in /dev/.var (mtab has
wrong/outdated info)

* etc, etc, etc...

Thanks!

[Bug 432620] Re: unknown filesystem type 'xfs'

2009-09-19 Thread zoolook
I get this every boot. Sometimes it can't mount /var, sometimes it can't
mount /home.

Once I got it to boot, I see a strange thing with /var:

zool...@venkman:~$ mount | grep var
none on /var/run type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,mode=0755)
none on /var/lock type tmpfs (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev)
/dev/mapper/venkman-var on /dev/.var type xfs (rw,relatime)

zool...@venkman:~$ grep var /proc/mounts
none /var/lock tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime 0 0
none /var/run tmpfs rw,nosuid,relatime,mode=755 0 0
/dev/mapper/venkman-var /var xfs rw,relatime,attr2,noquota 0 0
none /var/lock tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime 0 0
none /var/run tmpfs rw,nosuid,relatime,mode=755 0 0

my fstab:

zool...@venkman:~$ cat /etc/fstab
proc/proc procdefaults0 0
/dev/mapper/venkman-root/ reiserfsrelatime0 0
/dev/md0/boot ext2relatime0 0
/dev/mapper/venkman-home/home xfs relatime0 0
/dev/mapper/venkman-usr /usrreiserfsrelatime0 0
/dev/mapper/venkman-var /varxfs relatime0 0
/dev/mapper/venkman-opt /optreiserfsrelatime0 0
/dev/mapper/venkman-virt/usr/local/share/virt reiserfs relatime 0 0
/dev/mapper/venkman-music /usr/local/share/music xfs relatime0 0
/dev/mapper/venkman-swapnoneswapsw 0 0
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0

If I change RAMRUN and RAMLOCK to "no" in /etc/default/rcS, my machine boots
every time.

Regards,
Norberto

Can we please go back to nvidia-glx-180 = 180.xx.yy (instead of nvidia-
glx-180 = 185.xx.yy)?

I can't use nvidia.ko now because it crashes, and nv doesn't control my
gpu fan (psu load goes up because of the fan being at full speed all the
time)

[Bug 401448] Re: User postinst hook script [/usr/sbin/update-grub] exited with value 1

2009-07-29 Thread zoolook
I've been bitten by this one today.

Yesterday, I've installed Windows 7 RC in one spare hard drive and now
aptitude install linux-image-generic was giving errors.

After moving /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/20microsoft out of the way,
"dpkg --configure -a" ran correctly.

Yes. I'm using grub2 on Jaunty.

I've noticed that there's no /etc/grub.d/XX_microsoft to generate
entries for MS OSes. Maybe that's why I got:

Found Windows Vista (loader) on /dev/sdc1

User postinst hook script [/usr/sbin/update-grub] exited with value 1

...before moving /usr/lib/os-probes/mounted/20microsoft.

HTH,
Norberto
