[Bug 1001780] Re: apt-get update size is too big
A look at us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/$DIST/[main|universe]/binary-i386 reveals that timestamps on the package info for hardy, lucid, maverick, natty, oneiric, and precise are being updated. Based on this, I would say that the problem is *not* specific to Precise. This concurs with my experience; in addition to real and virtual machines I have with Precise, this happened on my virtual machine of Oneiric before I blew it away a few weeks ago. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1001780 Title: apt-get update size is too big To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1001780/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 742475] Re: Firefox 4 does not use Ubuntu Notifications
I also desire to see this integration. The default XUL notification does not fit in with Ubuntu's general polish. Perhaps this doesn't fit in with the Natty (now Oneiric) timeline, but it seems like @chrisccoulson has noted that something does need to happen. Can we rework this bug to fit what needs to happen, or is there another bug already describing it? Thunderbird, I understand, has received some love in this regard, but Firefox needs a little bit of help too. I would agree that a non-interactive notification without a way to get to the file downloaded is generally useless in some general-user contexts (though not in others, such as @danillo's use, or mine for that matter). Still, messaging menu integration—I assume this would be the proper place to put the other half of what is needed—cannot be that hard, can it? Someone made Thunderbird do it. In addition, the issue here is not third-party plugins, but functionality. OP didn't ask specifically for xul-ext-notify, but for integration with Ubuntu's mechanisms for displaying notifications to the user. This could very easily, I think (in my ignorance of how it all works), be simply put into Ubuntu's xul-ext-ubufox plugin, or added as another if desired. Again, I understand that similar work has been done on Thunderbird. I'm changing the status from Invalid to Confirmed, since this is a) past Natty, as mentioned by @chrisccoulson; and b) more or less confirmed, as I understand Launchpad bug tracking, by both @danillo and now I. Apologies in advance if this is not the right thing to do. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Confirmed ** Summary changed: - Firefox 4 does not use Ubuntu Notifications + Firefox does not use Ubuntu Notifications -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/742475 Title: Firefox does not use Ubuntu Notifications To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/742475/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 810680] Re: pasted web content downloads images unnecessarily
** Description changed: If I copy web content with images and paste it into LibreOffice Writer, the images are downloaded so they can be displayed. This is understandable. What is not understandable is that they seem to be re- downloaded when rendering thumbnails for the print dialog or exporting as a PDF. On the relatively slow connection I have, this takes a rather large amount of time, which is rather annoying. I tested a 9-page document with web content (one small image per page) and a 9-page content with large JPGs (one image per page), and the web content took a significantly longer time to render/export, even though in pure size it was much smaller. This leads me to believe that the content is re-downloaded for rendering. In addition, even the document with the JPGs took a small amount of time to render for the print dialog, leading me to believe that it might be re-loading these from the disk (or it could merely be the time it took for the processor to do its thing), but this does not take nearly so long. [Bug 740903] Re: return_to_partitioning fails when the replace option fails
Sorry if this is a really dumb question: this bug is linked in the Natty release notes, and I just want to make sure that it's not going to mess anything up on Natty install. The only thing I do that's not standard is use the partitioner to set up separate /home partition. [Bug 755137] [NEW] Extreme CPU activity/heat
Public bug reported: I have a Dell Inspiron 1764, running latest Maverick (more system info than I know what to do with was kindly attached by ubuntu-bug). This computer is /always/ running the CPU fan, no matter what's going on (rarely more than a few tabs in Firefox, if that). I have the laptop set up on a book so that it can get air; if this measure is not taken, the computer will eventually overheat (some kind of message about getting over 110 C) and shut down. This is not good. I'm willing to add any information anyone wants, and I'll be trying the latest mainline kernel sometime soon; I'll report back with my results when I have them. [Bug 689486] Re: File manager's mouse icon is distracting...
Unless I am mistaken, the icon in question is system-file-manager, which, among other things, is the icon used by nautilus. The potential for confusion also exists if Nautilus is pinned to Docky (or another dock), or if a launcher for the file browser is placed on the desktop or the panel - it is not specific to Unity, unless I missed something. As such, I am marking it valid for humanity. [Bug 713356] Re: indicator icon gives user false sense of alarm
** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager I have a laptop with a large battery. When GPM gets to the point where it uses battery-020, the applet/indicator in the panel makes me think I'm going to run out of batter imminently (e.g. next 15-30 minutes). Indeed, on another laptop with a smaller batter, I usually get this when I have only ~20-30 minutes left. But on this laptop, if I click on the indicator, it tells me I have 1 hour, 30 minutes left, which is about 3 times longer than I want to go before getting notified that I'm about to run out of battery. So there are several solutions I can think of, and I'm sure there are more: - 1) GPM ships with an orange icon for battery-020, and a red icon for battery-000. You could just say it is a problem with the icon theme. The problem is that this is not good for a lot of more symbolic (at least in the panel) icon themes (e.g. ubuntu-mono, elementary). + 1) GPM ships with an orange icon for battery-020, and a red icon for battery-000. You could just say it is a problem with the user's icon theme. The problem is that this is not good for a lot of more symbolic (at least in the panel) icon themes (e.g. ubuntu-mono, elementary). 2) Somehow implement it so that the percent at which it turns red is configurable. (Easily configurable, not hacking the icon theme configurable). 3) Somehow implement it so that if you get to a certain amount of battery time left (ideally also user-configurable, but it doesn't have to be here, unlike in #2), /then/ the icon turns red. I like this solution out of all the ones I see. 4) Something else I didn't think of. :) For solutions 2 and 3, the icon spec for gpm could merely be changed to have gpm-battery-[01][02468]0 /and/ something like gpm- battery-[01][02468]0-warning. [Bug 708776] Re: wireless takes long time to find networks
** Description changed: On a Dell Studio 1737 (laptop) with Ubuntu Maverick, linux 2.6.35-25.44, it takes about 25 seconds from the wireless being turned on to being able to find wireless networks. This is really annoying when coming out of suspend, as I have to wait what seems an eternity before I can get online. I can repeat this bug in two ways: either suspend/resume, which, as best I understand, shuts off the wireless on suspend, then brings it back on resume, or just use the wireless switch on the side of the computer to turn off wireless, then turn it back on. (I think it also does this on bootup, but because I have to spend some time in GDM and then waiting for login to complete, I know of no way to check the time.) Either way, the wireless takes only a second or two to come up, as evidenced by NetworkManager's 'Enable wireless' checkbox become active, but I have to wait 25-26 seconds before NetworkManager can see /any/ wireless networks (there are two in range of the computer). I also tested this with the latest daily mainline kernel 2.6.38-999_2.6.38-999.201101261132, and the problem also exists in this version of the kernel. + = + ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: linux-image-2.6.35-25-generic-pae 2.6.35-25.44 Regression: No Reproducible: Yes ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-25.44-generic-pae 2.6.35.10 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-25-generic-pae i686 NonfreeKernelModules: wl AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23. Either way, the wireless takes only a second or two to come up, as evidenced by NetworkManager's 'Enable wireless' checkbox become active, but I have to wait 25-26 seconds before NetworkManager can see /any/ wireless networks (there are two in range of the computer). I also tested this with the latest daily mainline kernel 2.6.38-999_2.6.38-999.201101261132, and the problem also exists in this version of the kernel. = ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: linux-image-2.6.35-25-generic-pae 2.6.35-25.44 Regression: No Reproducible: Yes ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-25.44-generic-pae 2.6.35.10 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-25-generic-pae i686 NonfreeKernelModules: wl AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23. Vish, Thanks for looking at this. People like you, who take prompt care of bugs, make Ubuntu and its community rock. I have a few observations/comments/notes: 1) The PPA I am using contains the Lucid icons repackaged for Karmic, so while I *am* using an unofficial PPA, I have re-checked and know that this can be duplicated in version 0.5.1.5 (Lucid). I can also grab the latest bzr and re-test if you would like. 2) Where has the fix been committed? I looked in lp:ubuntu/humanity-icon-theme, and the preferences-desktop-theme icon is exactly as I described. Where can I go to see this fix? [Bug 524734] [NEW] can't enable visual effects after adding new PCI card
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center I am using Ubuntu Karmic (9.10) with gnome-control-center 2.28.1-0ubuntu1. I have a graphics adapter, PCIID 8086:2562, which compiz blacklists (for good reason). However, I recently installed a new PCI graphics card, while leaving the old one in because it is part of the motherboard. I also installed the proprietary NVIDIA drivers for my new graphics card. I commented out the PCI blacklist in /usr/bin/compiz, and compiz (by running compiz --replace) runs fine. I then decided that I would not like this to become re-commented whenever compiz gets updated, so I reinstalled compiz, and added the line "SKIP_CHECKS=yes" to ~/.config/compiz/compiz-manager. Compiz still runs fine (checked by running metacity --replace and then compiz --replace). And now, the main point - I go to System->Preferences->Appearance and set Visual Effects to None. Then I set it back to Custom (I have installed ccsm-simple), and a window pops up searching for drivers, and then I am informed that Desktop effects could not be enabled. When I restart and then log in, my window manager is still set to metacity, forcing me to run compiz --replace. How can I get gnome-appearance-properties to let me enable Visual Effects/compiz?
