[Bug 1001987] Re: 12.04 dummy output sound device

2012-05-20 Thread Barry Matthias
OK have investigated this further and found there is no driver module
for alsa for the current kernel release so tying:

apt-get update will just tell me there is no binary for this.

in view of this i downloaded the sources from the alsa project to build the
kernel module snd_hda_intel and ensure it was loaded which is has but still i
seem to have no sound card installed
so how can i progressas the driver and card seem to be present?

regards

BM

I'm not sure what you mean by:
found there is no driver module for alsa for the current kernel release

The driver is named snd-hda-intel and it was already loaded. Please
attach a verbose pulseaudio log: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log

[Bug 1001987] Re: 12.04 dummy output sound device

2012-05-20 Thread Barry Matthias
Pulse shows the device as being dummy output as does the sound settings
in system settings

i have spent all today checking my machine and from what i can detect
the use of udev to detect the device is where the issue is as udev does
not recognise the sound card?

thats why i compiled and loaded the alsa driver

so why does pulse say it is a dummy output???

as i stated previously i downloaded the sources and compiled the driver
snd-hda-intel as the binary cannot come from the ubuntu software
repositories.
