Hello! Trying to use Squid3 + Dansguardian, in Mint 14 MATE. When setting Firefox individually (via its Preferences section) the proxy does work; but when setting it via the system Network proxy no effects can be appreciated. Notes: · gnome-control-center configuration doesn't work either. · Chromium does not detect the proxy too. There are a lot of patches here for individual applications, but still no resolution to the bug itself. Any developer love for this bug would be greatly appreciated! Hi, how to fix Software manager problems: Create, if not exists, the file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/proxy Edit the file and add the following line: Acquire::http::proxy "http://proxy:port/";; Save and exit. Hi, I have partially solved my problem as follows. My PC is behind a firewall so I need to provide some data to the system (proxy an so on). First I have set the proxy under Preferences->Network proxy. Now I can browse the Internet with Firefox (under 'connection settings: use system proxy settings'). But it is not enough to upgrade the system. This because the process is managed by Superuser (have to insert the passwd). So one have to open a terminal and type sudo -s (pswd) export http_proxy=proxy:port export https_proxy=proxy:port export ftp_proxy=proxy:port Now I get the updates with Update manager but the Software manager (i.e. mintInstall 7.4.4) doesn't work. I don't know why. Sadly, the gnome-control-center solution does not work for me. The problem itself still exists in linux mint 14 nadja w/ MATE desktop, though. About previous comment, forget the USB memory use proxy in firefox to download! Create/edit /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/03proxy and add following: Acquire::http::Proxy "http:://your.proxy.server:1234" Where 1234 is the port the proxy listen for connections. Anyway you may edit the synaptic network settings in case you use it or move towards the KDE4 which was finally my choice. I don't know why those distro guys lets this in my opinion important feature without any attention. This is fcking common requirement to modify proxy and the lack of this feature keeps a lot of first time users away from linux. I encountered aother intresting networking problem that may be possibly related ad thought it worth mentioning I am on a network with 2 gateways . by default the IP ending in .1 is issued by DHCP , however with a manual conbfiguratiopn we can switch to the .2 gateway.
