Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS reached End of Life in April. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases Please upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and re-test. If the bug is still reproducible, increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again. I apologize that we are not always to respond to bug reports promptly. [Bug 1016412] Re: gnome-shell freeze if I login shortly to system-startup (autologin)
This bug is still present in Gnome 3.4.2 with about 1 in 10 logins resulting into a freeze. Please keep in mind a lot of people use automatic login so there is no way for them to hack their way out of this bug by counting to 10 before logging in. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016412 Title: gnome-shell freeze if I login shortly to system-startup (autologin) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1016412/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1016412] Re: gnome-shell freeze if I login shortly to system-startup (autologin)
Meanwhile I have tested more and more Systems and EVERY System is affected by this issue. I tried gdm also, without any positive effect. I also update to 12.04.2 (lts-quantal kernel and xserver) without any positive effect. So I continue getting a cup of coffee after power on and before log in.

Do you also get this in the top-right corner? http://i.imgur.com/LPiKgdO.jpg I have the exact same problem when I log in quickly after startup. I have to count to 10 after booting to the login screen and then I can login without freezing. I also use LightDM, so I don't know if maybe this issue would go away if we used gdm.

** Description changed: I am running gnome-shell on 3 Machines: 1 prue Intel Laptop 1 Intel/Nvidia Optimus (use only Intel graphics) 1 AMD/Nvidia (nvidia proprietary driver) On ALL Machines the desktop is frozen very often if I login nearby the system startup (in cause of autologin for example). If I wait a while on the loginscreen after the system been started (no autologin) and then login to the gnome-shell everything works fine. After the desktop is frozen I can: * Move the mouse - * Switch to a console via Alt-Fx + * Switch to a console via Alt-Ctrl-Fx * Restart lightdm on a console and everything works fine - * Switch back to the desktop with Alt-F7, Desktop is black, mouse is movable + * Switch back to the desktop with Alt-Ctrl-F7, Desktop is black, mouse is movable I take a look to all logs an found nothing.
