Just eject the modem's CD-ROM to switch to usbserial mode. eg: eject /dev/sr1 Where sr1 refers to the modem's USB Storage mode. The device then switches to modem mode. Saucy and Trusty's kernels already have the appropriate drivers, so the modem will be detected automatically after that. I am trying to troubleshoot the same problem for a different user here (particularly from post #11 onwards) - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2083339 The modem does not get probed as a modem because its VID:PID (VendorID:ProductID) are not yet recognized by default by the driver "option" (as can be verified by the "modinfo option" command), which is supposed to drive it. If you are still loking for a solution, can you try post #11 (with PID replaced by yours) in above thread and let us know if it works for you ?
