Can confirm this issue occurs on Ubuntu 12.10 when trying to Sync with my Galaxy Nexus (stock 4.1.2). Got this message from rhythmbox when trying to sync with my Galaxy s3: (rhythmbox:5266): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_instance_get_private: assertion `instance != NULL && instance->g_class != NULL' failed Segmentation fault (core dumped) I think Geoffrey Pursell is right in thinking it is related to bug 1015010. I just bought an S3 today and I can verify that this is a problem on 12.04 LTS fully up to date. If I mount the phone in PTP mode Rhythmbox won't see it, but if I mount it in MTP mode it shows up as "Media Player" above. Manually moving files to and from the device works just fine, but Rhythmbox will hang if you try to access it. In fact, it seems that any interaction with the phone at all will cause problems. Dragging music to it will cause a freeze quickly followed by a crash.
