[Bug 101946] Re: [edubuntu feisty] ltsp client and server sound problem

2009-06-18 Thread Shaun Crampton
Reopened because I'm seeing this problem on Jaunty. I find that my LTSP
server loses sound as soon as a client connects. After a reboot, the
server gets sound back again.

I have two users, while user1 is logged in on the server, user2 connects
via LTSP, user1 then loses sound.

** Description changed:

I am testing Edubuntu Feisty Beta.

After the installation the sound in the server (gnome, totem, vlc,
  flash) works fine.

When a ThinClient boots up the sound does not work on it.

The problem is that the booting up of the ThinClient also changes the
configuration of the sound server so that the sound stops working in the

Even after rebooting of the server, the sound (gnome, totem, vlc, flash)
doesn't work. It only produces a sound before logging into the gnome

2007-07-07 Thread David Burgess
I'm using Feisty release and Andrew's fix restored sound to my thin
client but not to my server.

A fresh install (formatting / but not /home), followed by Andrew's fix
preserved sound on my thin client and server. Thanks, Andrew. I hope
this will be fixed in Gutsy, if not in Feisty. I can't imagine every
user having to reinstall their system after learning about this.

[Bug 101946] Re: [edubuntu feisty] ltsp client and server sound problem

2007-04-02 Thread ischnura
I have formated and reinstalled the Edubuntu Feisty Beta distribution
and I have the exactly the same problem as before:

After starting the ThinClient for the first time the sound (gnome,
totem, vlc, flash) stops working in the ThinClient and in the server.

The bug appears to miss configure the sound server.

[Bug 101946] Re: [edubuntu feisty] ltsp client and server sound problem

2007-04-10 Thread Andrew
I have a very similar problem. Here are more details about my situation
and a fix for the problem:

Logging into the thin client appears to mess up my account when I then
go back and login to the server at a later time. (Ie, using the same
user's GNOME account on both the client and the server. )

As soon as I have logged in one time on the thin client with a
particular user, from that point on, when I login using that user on the
server I don't get the welcome sound when the desktop is loading, don't
get sound from certain programs like the game tremulous, and I if I
click the upper right hand button to see the logout/turn off the
computer menu then X freezes and I must CTLR-ALT-BACKSPACE. This only
happens when I try to login with that user's account directly from the
server. (After I have already logged out of the thin client with that
user.)

I have found that by deleting the following 3 files in each user's home
directory upon login from the server everything is fine. I put this into
the beginning of the PreSession scripts for gdm. (GDM appears only to be
used when logging in directly from the server so this script is not run
when logging in from the thin client.)

sudo vi /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default

add these lines at the top:

rm /home/$USER/.asoundrc
rm /home/$USER/.asoundrc.asoundconf
rm /home/$USER/.pulse-cookie

That fixes both the sound problems not working from the server and the X
windows freezing problems at the server, so I can now login using the
same accounts on either the thin client or the server.

Hope this helps. Let me know if more information is required.

Thanks Andrew for you help!

Using your script I managed to make the sound work again in the server.

I still do not have sound in the thin client... this might be because I
was modified several sound configuration files.

I am going to do a fresh install of the Feisty Beta Distribution and I
will let you know if manage to get sound in the thin client.

Andrew,

After the fresh installation of Feisty Beta, the sound on the server
worked fine...

But I had the same problem with the thin client: the sound comes out

Do you know how can I reconfigure manually the pulseaudio, so that I can
get the audio of the thin client working?

Thanks,

[Bug 101946] Re: [edubuntu feisty] ltsp client and server sound problem

2009-06-25 Thread Teej
Thanks Shaun for the info. Under the "Configuration check" section on the wiki
page, have you tried with pulseaudio? :
* For locking with sound, you could try to use PulseAudio fully. (in lts.conf:
SOUND_DAEMON=pulse)
Thank you.

** Summary changed:

- [edubuntu feisty] ltsp client and server sound problem
+ [jaunty] ltsp client and server sound problem

** Description changed:

I am testing Edubuntu Feisty Beta.

After the installation the sound in the server (gnome, totem, vlc,
  flash) works fine.

When a ThinClient boots up the sound does not work on it.

The problem is that the booting up of the ThinClient also changes the
configuration of the sound server so that the sound stops working in the
  server.

Even after rebooting of the server, the sound (gnome, totem, vlc, flash)
doesn't work. It only produces a sound before logging into the gnome
session. Inside gnome I can not hear any more sounds.

Please let me know what information would you need in order to help
  locate the bug.

Andrew,

Do you know how can I reconfigure manually the pulseaudio, so that I can
get the audio of the thin client working?

Thanks,

I have two users, while user1 is logged in on the server, user2 connects
via LTSP, user1 then loses sound.

** Description changed:

I am testing Edubuntu Feisty Beta.

After the installation the sound in the server (gnome, totem, vlc,

When a ThinClient boots up the sound does not work on it.

[Bug 101946] Re: [edubuntu feisty] ltsp client and server sound problem

2007-07-07 Thread David Burgess
I'm using Feisty release and Andrew's fix restored sound to my thin
client but not to my server.

A fresh install (formatting / but not /home), followed by Andrew's fix
preserved sound on my thin client and server. Thanks, Andrew. I hope
this will be fixed in Gutsy, if not in Feisty. I can't imagine every
user having to reinstall their system after learning about this.

[Bug 101946] Re: [edubuntu feisty] ltsp client and server sound problem

SOUND_DAEMON=pulse)
