I also have this problem. I'm using the Microsoft SQL Server JDBC driver to connect to SQL 2000 and SQL 2005. I can create a query in the SQL view and run it to get data. However, double-clicking on a table to open it or clicking Use Wizard to Create a Query... crashes OpenOffice. I have exact the same problems. I also tried java6 and didn't use the libpg-java package, but the drivers from the postgresql.org website.
