I just noticed another related behavior. When Ejecting a USB drive, if you get a window asking if you want to empty Trash first, then no OSD notification will be displayed after Trash is emptied. I always get a notification whether I Eject or Safely Remove the thumb drive. Hi Ravi, I don't know why either. I just tested it again and I'm only seeing notifications for Eject but not for Safely Remove from within the launcher. Can you confirm the second part of my bug report? In Ubuntu 12.10 with Unity 6.2.0-0ubuntu2 right clicking on a usb icon in the launcher only shows two entries. 'open' and 'eject' click on eject show a notification to me.
