[Bug 1047698] Re: Keyboard unresponsive when 32-bit 12.04.1 installed on 64-bit system
Let's see how I would do this. First, I would need to reinstall the i386 version of 12.04.1 that had the unresponsive keyboard error. I might be able to free up some space for this. Then I would boot into the known broken i386 version. Then I guess I would have to use SSH to connect remotely to the non- functioning computer after the installation since I cannot use the keyboard. I should then download and install the updated kernel you pointed to above. Then I could return to the original machine, reboot it and see if the keyboard works. Are those the steps you want me to undertake? Remember the computer works fine with the amd64 version of the stock 12.04.1 kernel that comes on the installation CD. It only fails when the i386 version is installed. Obviously I've already deleted that version from the machine entirely and overwrote the partition in which it was installed with the working amd64 version. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1047698 Title: Keyboard unresponsive when 32-bit 12.04.1 installed on 64-bit system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1047698/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1047698] Re: Keyboard unresponsive when 32-bit 12.04.1 installed on 64-bit system
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.6 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance. [Bug 1047698] Re: Keyboard unresponsive when 32-bit 12.04.1 installed on 64-bit system
I have no idea what logs I would collect. Nor do I have the i386 version of the distro installed any longer since it didn't work. If this is just an automated or standard response, then perhaps a real human will advise me on what to do. I'm not going to reinstall the i386 version just to have it not work again, though. If there's any additional information about my hardware that will help, I'll be glad to provide it.

The kernel is my best guess, as to what package to assign this to.
