So, I think I solved this now, and it's actually not a bug in linux but a problem with bumblebee and the NVIDIA driver for my graphics card. Its due to the fact that NVIDIA changed the driver name. Therefore Bumblebee and as a result ACPI functions for my discrete graphics card didn't work anymore which probably caused suspend not to work (since I've never got it working without Bumblebee before). After completly reinstalling Bumblebee, rebuilding kernel modules and changing bumblebee.conf to adapt to the new driver this seems to work now. Here is the dmesg.txt. However, there's no line containing hash matches in it as described on the wiki page. The problem didn't occur this time either. Haven't tried uninstalling Bumblebee yet, but it's hard to test anyways since the problem occurs only from time to time. Not sure if this is true, but it seems to me this issue became less frequent. Had two freezes with upstream bug. I noticed that the system doesn't freeze after every suspend but only sometimes. It looks like the bug occurs when leaving system in suspended mode for some time before waking it up. Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.6 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
