Public bug reported: Letting the computer sit until it becomes inactive results in a hard lock or freeze. The screen is set to turn off, but "suspend when inactive for" in power settings is set to "Don't suspend."
The key combination to kill X does not work in this state (even though it is enabled), nor will magic SysRq combinations. It is also not possible to ssh into the box over wireless, although I have not tried a direct ethernet cable connection. This is completely reproducible with the current version of the kernel $ uname -a Linux eric-Inspiron-6000 3.2.0-32-generic-pae #51-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 26 21:54:23 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux but did not occur with the previous version (3.2.0-31).
