Here is a solution: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-

I did:
> dropbox stop
> mv ~/.dropbox-dist ~/DROPBOX-DIST (backup, just in case!  :-)
> sudo mv /var/lib/.dropbox-dist /var/lib/DROPBOX-DIST (idem)
> dropbox start -i

It recreated /var/lib/.dropbox-dist
I have no ~/.dropbox-dist now

Dropbox is working perfectly
Dropbox applet is working ok.

I have the same problem with one of my computers. The applet is showing,
but it remains in "Initializing..." status, although Dropbox goes on
syncing normally.

At least you still have your applet. Mine is gone. Syncing works, but I
miss the applet feedback.
