[Bug 1071064] Re: Tried to upgrade to 12.04

2012-10-30 Thread sampo555
As the problem is in Muon Software Center instead of Update Manager and
you already reported this issue to Muon developers, I'm going to mark
this bug as invalid for Update Manager.

Please attach backtrace of the crash to the new report using
instructions found here:
http://techbase.kde.org/index.php?title=Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports

This will help Muon developers to find and resolve the problem. Further
instructions for debugging KDE problems can be found from this wiki
page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKDE

Thank you again for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please submit any future bugs you may find.

** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Invalid

I executed suggested commands.
The system upgraded and I could successfully reboot.
The original bug with the package manager seem to persist.
When I click "Muon Software Center" the window comes up briefly and
crashes with a seg fault.
I get a message screen:
Muon Software Center closed unexpectedly.
I created a new bugreport about this.

Does your package manager show any error messages when it crashes?

If the problems are caused by interrupting an installation, see if running
following commands help:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Anyways, we need to see some log files or error messages before we can
properly help you. So please attach the errors and warnings printed by
the commands above to this bug report.

2012-10-26 Thread Eduard Bauboeck
The package manager most likely has a corrupted database.
I can't install new packages. When I start the package manager it crashes.
The corruption happened much earlier. I remember interrupting an install
process

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Could you also attach the log files from '/var/log/dist-upgrade/' to
this bug report?

Thanks!
