Still present in Xubuntu Intrepid (8.10). I can still reproduce it with Xubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Tribe 4 In some cases the list will never update even if a new app is selected as default. For instance, I right-clicked on an SMI file and selected Helix to be the default player. Helix opened it (but failed to play due to an unsupported protocol) but right-clicking it again did not show Helix as being the default, only Firefox. With other file types it was erratic, sometimes showing the association change immediately, sometimes only after trying a different file and then returning. It maybe related to MIME types specified in the desktop files (/usr/share/applications). The SMI file attached is what I used and it only plays with RealPlayer.
