[Bug 1077003] Re: ntp ignores config option interface ignore all

2012-11-13 Thread Michael Weyershäuser
Hi,

my expectation was that the ntp process does not open a port on any interface
but localhost.
The use case is to use the ntp daemon to permanently synchronize the time with
a central time server, but not to serve the time to any other host.

The interface option is defined in the nat.conf man page. However, when
I double checked it today to add a link to this bug I saw that this was
the manpage for precise (where ntpd works as I expected it). In the man
page for lucid there is no sign of the interface option.

So I guess this option was added somewhere between lucid and precise by
the ntp developers. Sorry for not double checking this before opening a
bug...

I marked the bug as invalid.

Regards,
Michael

[Bug 1077003] Re: ntp ignores config option interface ignore all

2012-11-09 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Could you please explain exactly what you expect interface ignore all
to do, and what behaviour you're seeing instead? Is the behaviour for
interface ignore all defined anywhere? It seems nonsensical to use
this to me, so based on the documentation I don't understand what you're
expecting ntpd to do in the case.
