"Elementary OS" 0.32 ("Ubuntu" 14.04)
and an installed proprietary driver for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470

I have a similar problem, maybe Sergey will know if it's the same thing. When I take screenshots I get old stuff that used to be on the screen some time ago. I found that switching to a text-mode virtual terminal and back to X, then immediately taking the screenshot, gets me the correct screen contents.
