As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. I have a Compaq Presario CS502us laptop running Gutsy Gibbon, and can confirm I have no sound. I had working sound in the live cd prior to an install. Sound worked for a while and now it seems that the only way to have working sound is to power up the lappy on battery power, not AC (plugged in). I had an issue with the headphone jack plugged in but still having sound playing out my speakers. I fixed this by adding options snd-hda-intel model=laptop. To add to this, my v3000 is dual booted with Win, and mount several NTFS partitions in Feisty. If I let Win hibernate, then boot into Feisty, sound in Feisty is broken. Even if I go back to Win and let is shutdown cleanly, sound does not come on. I have the exact same issues as described above, also i find it very sad that this big has been around for over a year without a decent fix. Sound stops/starts working seemingly randomly but has todo with AC/Battery and/or ACPI, very annoying problem and a lot of users are struggling with this. I have no problems with sound when running the old ubuntu 6.x but 7.x gives me the randomness described by other, i dont fancy having to use tricks (remove batter or boot without ac) to fix sound. It seems we're left in the cold, asla dev. and ubuntu dev isnt doing anything, this bug hasnt even got priority. I hope one day this big will be fixed, until then i will keep using FreeBSD ony my v3010au notebook. Hi guys. I have a compaq presario c571nr which uses the snd-hda-intel driver with a Conexant 5045 (CX20549 venice) codec. I followed the directions on this wiki page to install alsa version 1.0.14: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto And then I found putting the following in at the end of /etc/modprobe.d /alsa-base does wonders: options snd-hda-intel model=laptop Try that and reboot. I use one more option with mine (position_fix=1) which gets sound recording working with recordmydesktop. I have this sound issue on my HP Pavilion DV2007EA (with AMD turion nVidia+conexant etc.).. Soundproblem dissappeared after kernel upgrade on Feisty (I'm using now 2.6.20-16-generic kernel), and everything was working great, BUT now sound is gone again. I have to start computer with batterypower only to get sound working. I can plug charger in right after hearing sound in login screen and sound is working. One other thing is allso, that after this sound issue came back, multimediakeys at latop aren't working anymore. Or actually those are working, I can see how volume level changes in volume screen which pops up and when pressing mute it shows mute on that screen. Only problem is that volume isn't changing actually at all, and mute isn't going on or off (doesn't chance in up panel eather). PS. I had this problem too. The problem was that the alsa mixer volume settings was sometimes set to zero on reboot. I don't see the connection between running on battery/using the power cord and the volume being set to zero on reboot. I can confirm this bug with my T60. I could hear sound for a second every time I plugged or unplugged the AC jack. I rebooted several times using the most current and the previous kernel but no luck. Then I unplugged the power jack, halted the os, and removed the battery. After booting the AC jack unplugged, now I again have sound. I can confirm that shutting down, taking battery out and starting up again makes the sound work again. I am also experiencing this problem with a HP Pavilion dv2120ca. I dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu 7.04 x64. Sound does not work on first boot after using Windows. I have to reboot again (Into Ubuntu) without the power cable for the sound to come back. I just figured out a procedure to make the sound work again in my hp laptop. Usually, I use the laptop connected to the power source. If I shut down, disconnect the power and boot using the battery, Feisty comes up with sound again. I also verified that booting Vista (on my dual boot laptop) kills the sound after I reboot with Linux. I installed Fiesty Fawn on this laptop (Compaq V3000) yesterday, sound was fully working and sounded great. Could control sound levels with the buttons on the laptop (volume up/down/mute buttons) with no configuration needed. Today sound has myseriously stopped working, everything seems fine in the alsa mixer and nothing is muted anywhere. The very first install of Feisty final release didn't work but later on i reinstalled then it worked without any hitch. This sounds weird but I dont know the exact reason for this. In my COMPAQ V3000 (nVidia+conexant combo) the sound worked since 7.04 final release first day. Today it misteriously stop working.
