I can confirm this bug. In my case I have the VPN down through which most
accounts I access (Facebook, gtalk, icq). When empathy starts it immediately
eats up 100% CPU (telepathy-gabble) and continues to do so even if I set it to
offline.
An strace on the telepathy-gabble contains polls and empty receives only:

The errot can't reproduce, The error was present when you had a facebook chat in empathy and you lose your network connection.
