[Bug 1090833] Re: 'ALPS Touchpad' incorrectly detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse in Ubuntu Certified 'Dell Latitude E5430'
pirast, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a11 needs-upstream-testing ** Description changed: 'ALPS Touchpad' is incorrectly detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse in Ubuntu Certified 'Dell Latitude E5430'. [Bug 1090833] Re: 'ALPS Touchpad' incorrectly detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse in Ubuntu Certified 'Dell Latitude E5430'
Please open a new report instead of adding debugging information, attachments, apport-collect’ing, or “Me too!” comments on what may appear to be a similar bug. Chances are that your hardware does not match the existing bug’s hardware, so your bug and comments will not be addressed. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Hardware_driver_bugs_.28e.g._sound.2C_Linux_kernel.2C_X.Org.2C_and_Nvidia_.2BAC8_AMD_proprietary_drivers.29) This seems to apply to this bug, as there are various different ALPS touchpads on the market. [Bug 1090833] Re: 'ALPS Touchpad' incorrectly detected as PS/2 Generic Mouse in Ubuntu Certified 'Dell Latitude E5430'
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.7 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance.
