I had a similar issue with my Asus ux32vd zenbook prime laptop. This problem affected windows as well as linux, the only way I was able to resolve this is by pulling the cmos battery *(there was no cmos jumper) waiting and waiting a while before putting it all back together again. Reset to defaults from within the uefi bios menus did not work. The only way to fix this was a full cmos clear by pulling the battery. I've started seeing this with Kubuntu 13.04 since about a week ago with a Asus M5A78L motherboard. When it hangs, I am able to switch to another tty, but can't type anything else. Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.7 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.
