Public bug reported: I was encountering this problem in Ubuntu 12.04, but it has become much more serious since upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 last night. When I first log on, the launcher icons usually don't work and I cannot open files without going into the Dash. Then, an arrow pointing into one of the icons will start flashing rapidly, and the computer becomes unresponsive, or responds very slowly when trying to open or close programs.
