[Bug 111024] Re: atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed/released appears in log files a lot

2009-05-10 Thread Matt Keys
I have a fresh install of 9.04 with all the latest updates. I use a
"Microsoft Wireless Natural Multimedia Keyboard/Mouse".

Here's a picture of it:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=014

I am also getting a LOT of these messages in syslog/messages, but the
keyboard and mouse work fine. The volume, play, stop, next, previous,
and mute buttons work fine on the keyboard. I have not tested the other
buttons.

2009-04-18 Thread Steve Langasek
The original submitter reported that this was a hardware problem with a
glitchy keyboard generating keycodes that it shouldn't. I'm therefore
closing this bug as invalid. Marco, if you are still seeing this bug on
your Acer with the jaunty release candidate, please open a new bug with
the exact log messages you're seeing.

[Bug 111024] Re: atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed/released appears in log files a lot

2008-12-22 Thread Memo
Thought to give back some inputs.

When i reported this bug i was using a very cheap keyboard, something
around 2eur piece of crap. Had some issues in Windows XP also, as in
some applications, pressing right or left SHIFT key would send an E or e
code to the application. That was pretty annoying and i said it might
have to do with the keyboard itself rather than with the OS (be it
windows or linux).

Changing the keyboard to a better quality keyboard (MS branded) solved
the problem. So i think Microsoft does some quality things after all,
and is not software for sure. :)

Wishing good luck to the rest of you, and remember, is not always the
best thing to do everything to solve every issue that might appear with
every piece of crap hardware out there. Sometimes replacing the hardware
seems a cheaper solution than putting in hours of hard work to solve it
in software.

Best regards,
Memo

[Bug 111024] Re: atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed/released appears in log files a lot

2009-01-01 Thread marco.pallotta
The same messages (but with different keycodes) appear in my acer laptop
when pressing keys that doesn't run and are not assignable through
keyboard shortcuts utility. I think a solution to this could be
displaying a gui to the user every time this message appears in the log
files to help the user to customize keys that don't run out-of-the-box.
It could be a great usability option to make Ubuntu more user-friendy.

In the meanwhile, is there a way to solve by hand the issue?

2008-11-15 Thread Andrei Kouznetsov
Hello, guys.

I have exactly the same problem.
To reproduce:
Open gedit with a text file. Press SHIFT+Right and wait. After some time as
text being selected the selection gets replaced by some symbols and dmesg reads
...
[123054.560783] atkbd.c: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0xe0 on
isa0060/serio0).
[123054.560795] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e060 ' to make it known.

uname -r prints
2.6.27-7-generic

I am using Ubuntu 8.10. All updates have been installed.

[Bug 111024] Re: atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed/released appears in log files a lot

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

[Bug 111024] Re: atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed/released appears in log files a lot

2009-09-09 Thread Michalxo
I am getting this error on Karmic Alpha 5, freshly update. One of my multimedia
keys stopped working.
atkbd.c: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0x94 on isa0060/serio0).
atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e014 ' to make it known.

I was trying to add 'setkeycodes e014 0x94' into /etc/rc.local but it's still
not working. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks
