Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Which video driver are you using on your laptop? Are you trying to suspend to RAM or suspend to disk? I'm using the propietary nvidia drivers available optionally inside ubuntu. I'm trying to suspend the session either with the suspend or hibernate option within the system quit menu.
