[Bug 116428] Re: 7.04 liveCD crashes at boot time

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Well, just in case, I tried both noacpi and noapic; same result in both
cases.

2007-05-24 Thread kirillka
Brian, no need to apologize! I am grateful you are looking into this.

Unfortunately, I still got the same error after adding both "acpi=off"
and "noapic" parameter.

(Or did you by any chance mean "noacpi" paramter??? :)

I apologize for asking you test something again but could you please try
booting with "acpi=off' and "noapic". Thanks again.

[Bug 116428] Re: 7.04 liveCD crashes at boot time

2007-05-24 Thread kirillka
Brian and Benoit,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it: got to the 1st install screen,
selected Install or Run option, F6, then prepended acpi=off to the boot
command. The boot command looked like this: "acpi=off var1=val1
var2=val2 ... --". Running with this command unfortunately caused the
same exact problem - in both ver 7.04 and 6.10. I am attaching the 6.10
screen shot.

Thanks, Kirill

[Bug 116428] Re: 7.04 liveCD crashes at boot time

2007-05-23 Thread Benoit Malet
Hello !

In the specific case of the LiveCD, you can modify kernel option this
way :

Boot the CD
When at the menu, press F6 -> the boot options are shown
Append "acpi=off" (without the quotes) to the line shown

Hope this helps ...

Please try booting off the Live CD by appending "acpi=off" to the
kernel. You can learn more about modifying boot options at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto . Thanks for the second
picture it was much more informative that the first one.

[Bug 116428] Re: 7.04 liveCD crashes at boot time

2007-05-23 Thread kirillka
Hi Brian.

No, there is no prior version of Ubuntu on the system. In fact there is
no OS on the system at all, I got a brand new HD, put it into the system
and wanted to install Ubuntu there.

This is a single internal hard drive Dell Dimension 2350 system. I have
1Gb of RAM, 2.2GHz Pentium CPU, a 2 HD external firewire enclosure, USB
printer, USB scanner, USB camera, speakers, mike and USB Palm device.
Nor sure if all this is relevant though. :)

Thanks, Kirill

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Do you happen to be running a prior version of Ubuntu on that
system? If not what specific model of Dell Dimension do you have?
Thanks in advance.

If you look at the screenshot attached, you will see that the output
like that has been going on for about 100 seconds. It stopped at this
point and that's when I took this picture.
