[Bug 1169280] Re: Geary crashes after ~1mn activity
Hi there. Fix Committed in Ubuntu means that either the fix is available in -proposed or an upload is going to be made soon. Of course, this applies to packages in the Ubuntu repository, not packages in PPAs and so on. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status for more details. As I cannot find any evidence that this bug has been fixed in Ubuntu, I'm reverting the status change (but please tell me if I'm wrong). ** Changed in: geary (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1169280 Title: Geary crashes after ~1mn activity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/geary/+bug/1169280/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1169280] Re: Geary crashes after ~1mn activity
I experience the same bug. However, I am not using a Gmail but a private server. I currently have no other account configured. I had before, but I completely removed the local folder (rm -R ~/.local/share/geary) and reconfigured Geary with the single account. However, the bug was still present at the time. The last message I can see when running geary with the --debug option are: [deb] 13:28:07 imap-engine-generic-folder.vala:106: normalize_folders Other account x...@xxx.es:enviados ** (geary:7033): ERROR **: imap-engine-generic-folder.vala:131: UID validity changed: 1286437468 -> 1286437465 It may be interesting to know that the folder "enviados" corresponds to the "Sent Mail" folder. I attach the log file, I hope it can help. [Bug 1169280] Re: Geary crashes after ~1mn activity
Yes, I did have two gmail labels: [Gmail]/Sent Mail [GMail]/Sent Mail Note: both labels were different from the "Sent Mail" folder. I have no idea where they come from. I can only surmise that in my endless search for a good email client, one of them glitched and created those. I removed both of them, added back the faulty account and Geary seems to be working flawlessly. Huray! Thanks for all the help, and good luck for everything! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1169280 Title: Geary crashes after ~1mn activity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/geary/+bug/1169280/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1169280] Re: Geary crashes after ~1mn activity
I think I see the problem: you have one IMAP folder named [GMail] and one named [Gmail] (note the different case on the M). Not sure how that would happen. In my gmail account, [Gmail] with lower m is the name for that folder. I'm also not sure how you'd rectify the situation without risking deleting your real sent mail folder. Do these two folders show up separately in gmail's web interface, or are there any duplicately named labels or anything weird like that? So, I think the bug you're actually running into is that Geary is treating these two folders as the same, when it shouldn't be. I've ticketed that in http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/6821.
> I'll pursue here as the discussion has already started here That's no problem. I'll attach your log to our redmine ticket as well, just so when we start looking into this, we have fewer clicks to get everything we need. :) It makes sense that it's only the one account with the issue. UID validity is something specific to an account (even a specific folder in an account, I believe), but I was just confirming 100% and simplifying the repro case. I think your log is all the debugging help we need for now. I appreciate your offer to let us access your account -- we may take you up on that in the future if we run into issues debugging from the log. We'll let you know if it comes to that. We're glad you're enjoying Geary! [Bug 1169280] Re: Geary crashes after ~1mn activity
It has been 10mn+ now, so it is very likely that geary dos NOT crash if I remove this account. How can I help you debug this? If there isn't any other solution, I am willing to give access to this particular gmail account to a yorba employee if it can help. Anyway, I am super-happy as I can finally use geary (even if I still need my browser for that one account)!
I'll pursue here as the discussion has already started here (unless it is more convenient for you if I continue on yorba's redmine) I tried removing every other account and I still get: ** (geary:26079): ERROR **: imap-engine-generic-folder.vala:131: UID validity changed: 596398238 -> 596398376 I attached the log file; no worries about my id, I replaced all occurences of my email with "xana...@some-account.com". People could learn a thing or two by reading the label's name, but I don't care. I am now trying the opposite: I removed the faulty account, and I am in the process of re-adding every other account. I'll see how that goes ** Attachment added: "geary.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/geary/+bug/1169280/+attachment/3645054/+files/geary.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1169280 Title: Geary crashes after ~1mn activity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/geary/+bug/1169280/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1169280] Re: Geary crashes after ~1mn activity
Interesting, I don't think we've ever seen this with gmail before! I'm not the IMAP expert here, so it's hard for me to say why your sent mail would be triggering this reliably. If you remove all other accounts from Geary, I assume it still happens? Could you please remove the other accounts, then run geary with --log- network as well, and capture its log output: geary --debug --log-network > geary.log And attach that log to this (or the redmine) ticket, or if you're concerned about private information in it (it does list your account email address and folder names, for example), send it to ge...@yorba.org for us to examine? A full network trace might help us figure out what's going on. > I could not for the life of me understand how to register to submit/comment. No worries, we try to keep up with launchpad bugs too. For the record, there's a tiny register link the very top right hand corner of redmine that takes you to: http://redmine.yorba.org/account/register. [Bug 1169280] Re: Geary crashes after ~1mn activity
I selected "gmail" in the "services" drop-down, for all accounts; If I run geary --debug, I don't really see a server name there, but I get imap-engine-generic-folder.vala:444: Opening remote Gmail account ***@*.com:INBOX And it is retrieving my emails successfully so I think the server is ok I have further information, though (I hope): By running geary --debug multiple times, it seems the crash always occurs after this line: [deb] 22:22:07 imap-engine-generic-folder.vala:106: normalize_folders Gmail account x...@account1.com:[GMail]/Sent Mail ** (geary:25532): ERROR **: imap-engine-generic-folder.vala:131: UID validity changed: 596398238 -> 596398376 The two lines are always the same. Can it be that one particular message in my "sent mail" is tripping up geary? Can I know which with the uid? I cannot delete all my sent mail, unfortunately (work account, need precise record of all that happened) > By the way this is ticketed upstream here: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/6316 I know, but, at the risk of seeming utterly dense, I could not for the life of me understand how to register to submit/comment.
